Insurance

Has anyone tried to get a custom coverage to cover mods? Seems to be an up the hill battle

Many insurers will sell you additional riders to cover mods.

i have insurance, i mean nobody will inspect the car before giving you coverage so that is not an issue, but you'll only get blue book value in case of an accident.

Give your insurance a call. It is usually 20 dollars per every 1K of mods (Rule of thumbs). (Keep receipts too).

A lot of companies will allow you to buy extra coverage for installed parts. I know that Progressive comes with $1k included with their insurance, and you can buy up to $5k more. If I remember correctly, State Farm doesn't have a cap on how much extra coverage you can buy.

From Progressive's Website:

For: Accessories
This protects you if items you add to your car get damaged; we pay to repair or replace them. We protect accessories like stereos and TV equipment, navigation systems, phones, custom grilles and spoilers, and custom paint.
