Winter

Im thinking about would it be a good idea to take my Z out in the snow on Yokohama Advan just to get to in from work all highway? I say the ride is about 10-15mins.

Only if you have collision insurance with a low deductible....

Endless summer, down here; DD 365-days-a-year. Good luck, dude, and be careful!

kenchan 11-14-2009 10:44 AM

yah, probably not a good idea..

StLRedrider 11-14-2009 05:02 PM

Don't do it

if u get a good set of winter tires yes, stock tires...hell no. We got a few cm of snow last month and its only a 5-10min drive to the base...I could barely get out of my driveway, got stuck at the gym and almost went off the road 3 times...the 370z with stock tires suck for winter. Cost me $1500 for winter tires to be put on stock touring rims

Hmm, this makes me worried. I live in GA, so don't expect any snow, but I do plan on a trip or two to Va in dec and jan and expect at least a little snow (blue ridge mountain area).

You guys are saying the z is very bad in the snow or just not as good as a land rover? My only choices are my z and my beetle!

alan93rsa 11-14-2009 09:56 PM

The Z doesn't have the most generous under coating on the market. I wondered about the salt issues on mine.

Get a DD.

mattkim85 11-15-2009 01:31 AM

It's almost scary how serious you all are.

I've driven a lot of crappy FWD cars in the snow (read: snowy weather, not like 4 inches of snow on the roads) and have had no issues. Although I was told growing up FWD cars actually handle better in snow, my 72 bug that doesn't have many issues with a little snow...and it doesn't have the VDC system the Z has.

What makes this car so bad in a little snow? Obviously driving around all winter in Maine, with feet of snow piling up around you and gallons of salt destroying your undercarriage, it's not the ideal situation, but a tiny bit of snow can't be as bad a little rain, can it?

Don't do it if you can avoid doing it. If the road isn't plowed and there 3 inches, don't even attempt it. I've driven my Mustang through an ice storm a couple years ago, and some of the roads weren't plowed yet and there was around an inch of stuff on the roads. I didn't get stuck, almost lost it a few times though. I wasn't praying that I wouldn't wreck the car I was praying I wouldn't die when I DID wreck it. It took me 2 hours to make a 20 minute trip. The stang had 'Ultra High Performance' summer tires, get a good set of wiinter tires if you think you're going to go through snow.

Oh, man! This reminds me of the time I was down in Savannah at my parent's place. Savanahh got hit with two inches of snow for like the first time in 100 yrs...it was chaos. It looked like a scene out of Mad Max lmao.......................

PS - your old beetle does well in snow cuz the engine is over the drive wheels, dig? And don't forget de skinny tires!

Yeah, Fort Gordon got 2 inches of snow and shut down for 3 days. Complete chaos!

Beetle with snow tires ftw! trust me, I is a Northerner and I is a skiah!

I fondly remember the time a buddy of mine decided his new '84 (I think) RX-7 was a good ride to VT as a ski car. Ya, he bought a ski rack that suctioned onto the passenger windows and everything. :icon14:

We still talk about how many times we had to push his *** out of drifts, up hills........and the very famous time he gunned the engine in a puddle of slush while being pushed by Big Jay Walsh. Big Jay was NOT happy.:shakes head:
