Fly1 Duckbill Wing Install - HELP!!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,

I'm going to give you the short version of this story...I'm looking for advice from you guys because I honestly don't know what to do.

Today I went to a custom body shop to have my Fly1 carbon fiber duckbill wing installed. I was quoted for an hour for the install so I said I would wait around for it to be done....well it took 2.5 hours and they charged me $189 to install the stupid thing when they said it would only take an hour and would cost about $70...

After it was all said and done, I go out to inspect the wing and they mounted it off-center....now idk about you guys but this is completely unacceptable....they mounted the wing using 4 bolts in the 4 holes that fly1 puts on the bottom of these wings. I have a Z that does not have factory holes already drilled, so somehow when they tried to line up the wing, they did so off center about a half inch or quarter inch...

To rectify the situation...they offered me $25 off the install ($25 f&*#ing dollars?!) or to reinstall it and plug the holes...So then I'll have 8 god damn holes in my trunk if I ever decide to take the duckbill off...

What would you guys do if you were in my situation?

- I attached the picture twice in case one was too big or too small to see.

Well that sucks. It's definitely not on center and $25 off the install is BS. Hopefully they can just slot the holes they made to get it centered up. It doesn't look off enough to need 4 need holes. I think they should fix it and drop all fees for screwing up your car.

I agree, they did a really bad job

yep very bad. I helped the shop I went to line it up... we created sort of a template before we even drilled.

Id be pissed too.

Only you know if you can live with that. If you can not, then you know the answer already without our input.

It'll bug me. There's a way to install that thing. Clearly not test fitted properly. Sorry for your troubles.

Sorry but find another shop
These guys obviously don't care for attention to detail

I really cannot add more than what others have said.
I do all my own installs just because of stuff like what happened to you.

Of course,we all do not have the same skills/tools when it comes to doing
things. Looking at the big picture,as I am a guy that is much older than
the average Z owner,I worry about the lack of skills or the willing to learn,
take the time to do the job yourself from some younger owners.

Rather have a friend or a shop do it.
Get off the phone and other stuff and learn.

By the way, the install does look like crap.
It would drive me crazy as is.

You have two issues. It is not centered and it is not leveled. Off by as much as 3/16 to a quarter of an inch. You will need to dremel the holes larger starting at 12 o'clock going to 3 o'clock. If they did not use tape on the far edges of the wing and tightened the sh!t out of it, you might see some paint damage. Good luck.

Edit: with the enlarged holes use rubber washers along with the metal ones to keep water from seeping through.

Like others have said it is off center & crooked but not by too much. Larger holes should give you enough to get it straight.
I just installed my spoiler a couple of weeks ago & drilled the holes a little oversize to allow for final alignment.
Yours looks like it needs to go about an 1/8" to the right which isn't that much.
