I have driven the 328i a few times performance wise it's not even close to a 335i much less a Z.

You are comparing a 4DR car to a 2DR. Why not the 335i?

370z: Reliable. Fun to drive, costs less and only goes to the Nissan dealer for regular oil change. Auto insurance does cost a lot more than the 335i though.

335i: Better interior, audio system, more features and does much better in snow.
Under warranty (thank god) and went to the BMW dealership for too many problems so far.

It all boils down to what you want dude. I was in the same situation as you and I'm happy I picked the Z. My brother ended up getting the 335i
so I get to drive it and vice-versa :driving: We both agreed on everything above btw.

is your z auto? leaning towards BMW now

If you can only have one car, but you need to drive it year round, without question choose the Bimmer (but lease it). If you can keep a winter-beater on hand, without question buy the Z.

My previous car was a 328i. It was great fun, though not nearly as sharp as the Z cornering, shifting, or steering, but it was close. The audio system in my Z is superior to HK in my 328, but that might not be the case if you bought a base model Z. I say lease the 328, because my 328 was a legit money pit once it hit 70k. With a lease you let BMW take the hit on repairs for 3 years then dump the thing for a new model.

Couple of things.

I drive automatic, so shifting doesn't matter to me

what is HK sound? is that just hte bimmer sound system?

I will be buying either a base z or one with sports package nothing more

axmea? 02-21-2016 06:48 PM

I give up. Buy the 328i.

Your first line answers your question: If you drive automatic, don't buy a Z or a BMW, because that's 1/2 the fun of these cars.

HK stands for Harmon Kardon, the default soundsystem manufacturer for BMW. I think you can option up to Bose though.

Base Z? Nope I wouldn't do that. No leather, no heated seats, no navigation, no Bose, no deal.

Lease the 328i for 3 years, you won't regret it. It'll keep you entertained in the corners, it has enough pep to make the highway fun, and its a reasonably spacious do-it-all, daily, 4 season driver. After 3 years, you'll know whether you want a faster, better handling car.

In my case, after owning a 328i for 8 years, I knew I was ready for a dedicated sportscar, not another sports sedan.

In case you didn't catch it before, LEASE the Bimmer, don't buy it. Hope this helps.

axmea? 02-21-2016 10:44 PM

LOL. I just updated my LIST.

ayrton88 02-22-2016 10:12 AM

If you aren't enough of a driving enthusiast to want a stick, I would get the Bimmer. Speaking from experience, do not buy a BMW, lease it.

BC416 02-22-2016 10:38 AM

A 328i is the type of car a spoiled girl gets for her sweet 16.

kaylikestofly 02-23-2016 03:48 PM

Bump

kaylikestofly 02-23-2016 03:59 PM

man all i really need is the opinion of someone who has driven or owned both

just hook it up

ayrton88 02-23-2016 04:36 PM

I've owned both and have replied a couple times. The Z is a sports car the BMW isn't. The Z is reliable, the BMW isn't. If you don't want to shift for yourself, don't buy a sports car. My Bimmer was a stick, but that's just me...I wouldn't own an automatic. Without a manual the BMW would have been totally boring. It did handle nice, but no where near the Z. Like has been said multiple times, if you decide on the Bimmer, do not buy, lease. They break all the time.

Chuck33079 02-23-2016 05:53 PM

Someone this concerned with the opinions of others was born to drive a bmw. Seriously, drive both and buy the one you like.

Solid370z 02-23-2016 08:55 PM

You would be better off with the BMW i3

they want to be smug so they drive a smug car.

you want to drive fast you drive fast car.

anyways most of you guys are noobs... I got the Z for 1 reason. failing csc. DUHHHHHHH

Plus I live in an area with not a lot of open (LA, lots of traffic and stop lights) roads so I do not think I can really drive it. This will be my only car as well...not a 2nd one.

If you were bored in a automatic Z? U test drive the manual. But if you're bored in a Z, a 328 is half the performance capability of the Z, so you're just already contradicting yourself and I'm on page 2 and you never answered the purpose of your car. ... I'm on page 2. Let's see if by page 3 this turns into a jungle post?

Agreed. Z's are very hard DD's. My close friend has a 328i so I am very familiar with them. I have also been in a base 328i which is CRAP! So i guess it depends how loaded you want your 328i.

Base Z vs 328i (loaded and used i assume based on the vast price differences new) I would go with the 328i as long as it is loaded due to the versatility and better day to day function.

...its just... the Z is SOOOOOO FUUUUUUN to drive..... plus...the day will come when you're in your in your 328i...and a 335i or worse, an M3 pulls up next you you. You don't get that inferior feeling in the Z since its in a class of its own.

Food for thought!

This may be a dumb question because its a Z forum but which is better out of Z and 328i? BWM is more practical and drives better but I love the power of the Z. Anyone have experience with both cars and can over solid advice? Thanks!

Take the time to drive both and make a decision.

Good Luck!
