2nd gear grind =/
Has anyone else experienced 2nd gear grinds during hard accelerations? I just hit 1200 miles yesterday so I decided to do some hard accelerations. And on both occasions it grinded when engaging into 2nd gear. Mind you I've driven manuals all my life and the clutch was fully depressed, I made sure of it on my 2nd attempt. And the car was not cold, I had driven over 20 miles when I did this. The only thing I can think of is I had the S mode on at the time, which I don't think should cause this but I have not tried the latter. I will try this again with S mode off and see what happens. I also previously owned a 2005 350Z and this was often discussed in forums. Luckily my 350 was ok. I was under the impression that the 370 had a different tranny. I know some of you might say to give it a few more miles which is sound advice, but it shouldn't do this. Either way I will wait until 2k and if it still grinds I'm taking it to the dealer.

2nd gear can be difficult to engage on a brisk high-RPM 1-2 shift I've found. Supposedly there is now triple cone synchros on 1st and 2nd but you could have fooled me. The 350 and the G35 weren't perfect but they were a little easier on the 1-2 shift. Other than the revised synchros I think the transmission is the same as it was so I'm not sure what the real issue is.

I have this same problem, but i usually just dismiss it as driver error. I have only been driving manual for about 2 years and coming from a jeep wrangler 5 speed was insane

Mine is pretty smooth but it could be smoother. I find it ok at quick shifts but a bit clunky at slower, in traffic shifts. I think the oil plays a bit part and will be opting for flush and replacement at the 10,000km service in Jan.
What trans oil do you run RCZ?

funny you mention that i was just about to post a threat about a problem im having similiar to yours but also different. my car has about 1700 miles and the other day i was stopped at a red light and the car wouldnt go into first gear. and I've been driving only manual cars for over 4 years never had a problem like this. I pressed the clutch as far as it would go and i wasnt able to put it into 1st. i was standing at a green light for literally 20 seconds because it wouldnt go into first. i thought nothing of it when something similar had happened. when i tried shifting into 5th gear it wouldnt budge again
-___- so tomorrow im getting it checked out. |

2-3 is the problem that i've had, but i usually just blame me pushing the wrong angle and hitting between 3 and 5 or something. i'm not used to a gearbox like this, where you have lil bumps to get into the gate. first new car i've had that was a stick.

That is fine for a stop sign etc, but it's not a good practice to sit 5 minutes at a red light with the clutch in as it places unnecessary wear on the throw out bearing. If sitting at a long light you should be in neutral with your foot off the clutch, you can then stick it 1st when you anticipate that it's about to go green.
