Just shift into 1st (no need to clutch out)while your still rolling forwards before the stop. Your collar will be then aligned when you're ready to go.

That is fine for a stop sign etc, but it's not a good practice to sit 5 minutes at a red light with the clutch in as it places unnecessary wear on the throw out bearing. If sitting at a long light you should be in neutral with your foot off the clutch, you can then stick it 1st when you anticipate that it's about to go green.

funny, the 1-2 upshift felt smoother in the 370 I tested compared to my car. In reality the gearboxes are probably almost identical mechanically with variations in quality control from unit to unit accounting for all the stories. Some 350 guys had trannys replaced and some were great from day one.

I just experienced some grinding from 1-2. I was doing some spirited driving and I will admit I had a miss shift that was immediately corrected. But 2nd did grind pretty nasty. And on my way home driving normally everything was fine but then I tested it seeing if my 2nd would still grind while pushing it and it did. Maybe I'm just to nervous and I'm missing the gear like a noob, or is my 2nd gear messed up?

Second does grind for me in some rare cases. Its usually when the car is cold or I am shifting too fast (I believe the syncro's cant keep up). I think all Z's can do it and it depends more on the driver.

It happened in my dad's 350z as well yet it never happened to him. Again though its rare. I would guess I maybe do it 3 or 4 times in a 6 month period.
