1. Don't ding your Z. That is bad formmm....
2. Paint touch up is a crapshoot most of the time but works to an extent. If you are a perfectionist with your car I wouldn't suggest that. 3.What did you hit? lol or did someone else hit you? |
On my wife's truck, I used Dr Colorchip and am satisfied with the result. That looks a lot bigger than the small rock chip she had. I'm not sure I would use on that. Sorry about your car. There are some inconsiderate folks out there.

I take care of this thing like its my child . Someone hit it while I was at the store and drove off I'm assuming . I haven't even scraped the car yet ! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
touch up paint.. several coats. You want to build it up, then wet sand with 1500, then 2000 grit, compound, and polish. Sadly, it will not look new again because YOU know its there, regardless of how good the results are.

I actually have a blemish on my trunk still from dried over silicone adhesive and 3M tape from my old spoiler. For my situation, Only way to fix it is to remove the new spoiler sand it down and repaint it :/ $450 out the door to make it look like it never existed. But I'm doing a full carbon fiber build so I will have to replace the trunk piece anyhow lol. So I'm holding off on fixing it. Sad part is my new spoiler doesn't cover the blemish Learned easily to not install big parts myself lol. If you are looking into putting an aftermarket body kit onto the car eventually I would save my pennies for that instead of an okay fix. Just cause if you get FRP parts you will have to paint anyhow. So it depends on what you want to do with the car as well to about how to fix the blemish |
I have had very little success getting the touchup to work on my silver. The color is so translucent it'll look fine at one angle and go dark grey at others. The best success I've have is to first fill the spot with white, then over-thin the silver with a medium reducer and bring the color on very slowly.

how much can i run if i take it to the dealership? should i just get the paint from them?

I had a similar ding/scratch and it was going to cost me $950 for a body shop to repaint and pop the dent out. My ding/scratch wasn't as bad as your pictures show and I was fortunate enough to be able to buff it out myself and the dent obviously stayed but it can only be viewed if looked at real close and a certain angle.
I would not take it to the dealership unless you are ready to pay some big money... 2-3k upward is my guess. I would try a local body repair shop 1st and I think you'd be quoted similar to $950 however you are in Cali so it might be more. Or instead of paying what you are quoted to fix it you could use that money toward an aftermarket rear bumper/valence. :happydance: |

I use touch up paint and Langka Paint Chip Repair. It's always worked well on my cars, but I hear it doesn't work on all colors.
If you are detail oriented and good with your hands, you could absolutely fix those scrapes with the Langka or Wet sanding methods (if you don't want to get it resprayed that is) |
Touch up paint is akin to white out. If you're really anal about it, go to a reputable body shop and have them redo it.....But don't give them the keys to your car. They will joyride it and probably crash it. Remove the bumper and give it to them.

that's not a ding, that's a scratch

its in the bumper cover. I would just get the whole thing repainted. Shouldn't be more than 400 and you will have peace of mind.
if it makes you feel better, someone did this to my 6 day old ram truck 2 weeks ago. Cost me $1200 to have it fixed. http://imageshack.com/a/img633/2919/YMaFRw.jpg |
