Isn't the 370 just as fast as the e46 m3?

My previous car was an 04 M3 with an intake/exhaust and to be honest I the Z feels quicker stock. :tup:

I know a few guys with the current gen M3. I will have a comparo soon.

Is it me or did the M3 driver have no clue about hitting the apex and the Z driver used his brakes in the oddest places? :icon14:

sorry but the z wont stand a chance. you'll be blown away by the e92 m3. it's so much faster and more superior to the e46. a friend of mine has one. 414 hp really make it go! the e92 is in the league of the corvette, 911 carrera, viper, vanquish, etc...

The E46 is garbage. My friend has one and it is very unimpressive. It only has power between 6K rpm and redline. Took him for a ride in the Z and he really liked the torque and power. He said the Z would wipe the floor with the M. He's looking to trade up to a E63 Mercedes. The E92 has us by 80hp but I'm still curious of it's capabilities.

It is fast but "soft" compared to M's of old. It is much heavier than previous years as well. Undoubtly a great car, but does not belong in the same class of cars mentioned above. Furthermore I had the opportunity to run side by side with one in my stock Z from high 2nd through 4th gear...not as impressive as I expected.

If it's one with a DCT you in for trouble.

Why not? 0-60 in 4.2 s, 1/4 mile in 12.6 s, 0.98g skidpad, 71.4 mph slalom. Would a viper, 911, or vanquish be able to best those numbers?

How do you know that M3 you ran with was at full throttle? They have 80 hp more, and are faster in both 0-60 and 1.4 mile by a margin.

Clearly, the E92 M3 isn't in the same league as the Viper or 911.

your own list says the m3 is within a 3-4 sec of the 911 (which is nothing for a very long racetrack like nordschleife), and is actually faster than the srt 10 viper

Since you're comparing a top of the line 3 series, why not compare it to top of the lines like the 911 GT2 or ACR Viper? Don't you want to compare apples to apples here??

No, the gt2 and acr are expensive supercars tuned exclusively for race track. The e92 is a sports car, so it can be compared to sports cars in its performance and price range like the carrera, corvette, viper. bmw does not make supercars, so there is nothing to compare to cars like the acr and gt2.

e46 is still one of my favs

To whoever that said e92 was built to hang with carreras, vipers, vettes, yadda yadda.....let me know what you're smoking - i'd like some too. If im on that, i'll probably think my Z is in the same league as the aforementioned list of cars too and therefore will enlarge my e-penis. M3 is a mass marketed overweight sports touring car. please compare apples to apples.

You don't need to smoke. You need to read. Go check the list of nurburgring laptimes posted by the other guy a few posts above. The m3 time is indeed around the same as the 911, viper, corvette, etc...

ROFLCopter.......that list.....now really tell me what you're smoking. while that list has some accurate data, u have got to tell me that it's loaded with a BUNCH of bs too. how do you know the variables that were involved in ALL those 32489345 runs? drivers? weather? track condition? temp? etc etc....hence all the inaccurate times. fanboism is okay to an extent. but this is ridiculous. e9x m3 is def a nice car. i wish i had one instead of my Z for sure. but ive also driven it a LOT both on the street and track. i've also driven a 997 carrera s a lot. believe me my friend they don't compare.

As some one mentioned I think your a little crazy. In the track world 3-4 secs are ALOT. That is a big gap to be honest if you were to say .05 secs, then that would be close.

We either go by the official times presented or by your "substantial" experience.

get the 370z, i have driven both and the Z feels faster and sportier, now the new M3s are faster, but cost like $20k more than the Z.


to the poster who said, the new bmw will beat a new vette.llllllllooooooolllllll

the new vettes come stock w/ 436HP/ 424Tq
and the new M3s come stock w/ 414HP/ 425 Tq

how can a M3 beat a vette, when it has = torque and less HP???

especially when the bmw outweighs the vette.

the weights are close - there are a LOT of factors that come into play w/ cars that close lol... the "436" and "414" are PEAK power not the average of the power band... stop mag racing... its lame
