compared to the e46 the e92 is not a drivers car. Way more computers than a raw feel for the car and yeah I've driven and been in both enough to quantify my opinion. Btw, this is why manual transmission are the only way to judge your skill. If you are doing nothing than pushing paddles as you win, the only reason why you've won is because of the fat check you wrote BMW. Your driving ability means jack sh!t.
Personally, I kinda like hearing I beat the M3 driver more than I like hearing the Z beat an M3....who wouldn't?

I dont think we are watching the same video mate. Twice i had to let go of the throttle, so i didnt go into the back of him. First one at .32 seconds and seconds at 1.48 seconds. And if it looked like he was pulling away, i would hope so, as he comes out the corner before me, and so is on the throttle first. Common sense really. But not once in the video, was he every pulling away on the straights. Quote:
Have none of you guys been on track before? You dont keep going round and round the track no stop. You do cool down laps, so that the engine, brakes, tyres, and everything else cools down. Or else its bad for the car in every way, and you wear stuff down. These are road cars, not track cars, that get new tyres and brakes every time they go on track or race. Quote:
The fact of the matter is, the 350z was slow, and they had to bring the engine to a 3.7 litre to get the same power as the 3.2 litre S54 engine which is currently in the E46 M3. Not sure why you guys are comparing your cars now to an E92 M3 In standard form, i have no issues keeping up with them, as weight is there downfall. But remap, full exhaust and pulleys, bring those cars up to 460bhp. However, for the price of a new 370z, you can pick up an E92 M3 now. I do agree that the E92 is a soft car compared to the previous models of M3s. |

Frankly if you can get a new car with warranty for the same price you can get an older M why wouldn't you want a new car? I don't mind M guys coming on here, especially e46 M3 guys, I know enough of them to know how you guys are. However, lets be real, the Z is faster than the e46 M3, handles just as well if not better, is cheaper to mod, and is still in the opening stages when it comes to aftermarket parts available. Frankly the only thing the e46 M3 has is 2 extra tiny seats and a BMW badge, but for some that's enough.

The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times is identical to one another. The top gear lap times comparing 2 cars 10 years apart is nonsense. |

I just looked at his location, stateside the M is anywhere between mid 50's-upper 60's, the Z is high 20's-mid 30's unless you want the nismo or 40th. I love my Z but if I could have gotten the e92 M3 for 30,000 I would have alas that's not how it works in the US. Btw the Top Gear big board is a good measurement tool, they aren't going to keep running the cars and updating the time and the Stig drives all the cars so the driver is always the same, per my knowledge it wasn't wet when they ran the e46.

So are you telling me that that range of 33k-36k, from the two cars you showed, which are a roadster and limited edition model, represent the cost of a base 370z with sports package as well?
I'm seeing base models MSRP at 26.8k? And off the bmw uk website, E92 new starting at 53k Just sayin... Last edited by Nick911sc; 06-08-2010 at 03:01 PM. |

Read what he said carefully bro, he is paying 33-36K in pounds. 1 pound=1.44 dollars.
Wow I assumed you were getting the M3 cheap, it's rather you guys are paying a lot for the Z. Under those circumstances I'd get the M, a major proponent for the Z stateside is the bargain factor, for around $25-$30K its a great buy but if it were 33K in pounds or $47,000 I wouldn't feel the same. All in all, the e92 is a beast, but it can be beaten depending on driver ability. In my case my driving ability was the winning factor in holding off the bavarian beast. I'm a fan of the e46 M, it's still a competative car, but I think as the aftermarket for the Z develops a lightly modded Z v. a lightly modded M, the Z will have a higher rate of success in a straight line and probably on a track as well.

I would never buy an E92 though, as they weigh over 100kgs more than the e46 and the Z. |
