Anyone else have problems at highspeeds?
It seems when I hit 80+ I feel that the back end of my car is gonna spin out... I'm scared to even push it past 100 due to the fact that I feel the car is going to lose control. I have a 2013 touring model.. anyone have an idea of what could cause it.. or is it just me?
|
I've never had that problem. I've gotten it up over 130 (safely not street racing or anything) and even then It felt stable. Or maybe I just thought it felt stable because my last car was an old mustang. :icon17: I guess your car could be out of alignment.

Haha I'm not sure then, I just edited my last post before you replied, but maybe it's an alignment issue. I would think you would notice that at lower speeds too though.
|
The only problem I seem to have a high speeds is cops...lol
But really I would get the alignment checked, even a little out on these cars seem to make a big difference, front and rear need to be checked. |

I mean the wind definitely could've played a factor.. it just happened to me more than once so I definitely need to bring it to the guys to check/do the aligment hopefully that will cure it. I'll give feedback on it incase anyone else is having the same issue as me! Thanks for all the input everyone |

I feel the same and although I've had mine up to 150 mph a few times, it just didn't feel planted to the road like my SRT8 does at 170 mph, but that could be because it weighs as much as a tank @ 4400 lbs and the Z is considerable less.
|
My car was always fine at those speeds until I tried to break hard, it felt really unstable at that point.
|
Check your rear suspension.

Have you tried not going that fast on dirt roads ?....

I hit 148mph.... No problem, but I have sport pig.
|
What do your tires look like? That can most certainly play a factor or it could very be that you've just never driven that fast in a sports car (no shade).

I have a sport with the forged 19" wheels, and I've found that the car is extremely sensitive to tire pressure. If it is a couple pounds too high (cold pressure btw) the car will seem to wander or drift in the lane at normal highway speeds. I dropped the pressure 5 lbs (found out I had a bad tire gauge...) and it was a different car - totally stable.
Get a good tire gauge and check the tires. Too high is just as bad as too low. The correct tire pressures are on a sticker on the inside of the driver door jamb. Good luck! |
Our cars have a very short wheel base. Any of the above effects the Z more than other cars. Corvettes have 8-9 inch longer wheel base just to aid high speed. Even the 350 is longer, just park next to one and you can see it.
Check tires/pressures, then take it in to the shop. |
check tires, suspension, alignment.
at 120+ the car feels like you're at a cruising speed on the highway. even up at 150-170 (on roads in mexico) it still feels planted. |

No but seriously.... 305's or :eekdance: |

but even with stock 275 rears I topped it out (pretune) at 160. the stickier 305 rears do add a little more confidence :tiphat: |
I never drive above the posted speed limit as far as you know.

On a side note: Where in radioactive land (NJ) can you drive 80+? |

As for the OP, start with something simple. Check your tire pressure and go from there. |
The only problems I ever encounter at high speeds are police officers :eekdance:
|
check on tires, alignment, and corner balance if you're on coilovers. I drive mine over 100+mph on the race track with no issues
|
At those speeds I think it's safe to assume winds play a huge part in it. I've taken my car on a track around 120+ mph on sunny and windy days and sunny days I don't have that problem. But I'd still get the alignment checked out.
|
I've been past 160 in my Z (private track), felt safe. I think alignment/wheels balance/suspension is the area to check.

Haha thank you all for your input I really do appreciate every single post you all took the time out to post. And I don't do it often only when I have a OPENING road with no cars and where I know I can hit those speeds. We have a few major roads here where you can "safely"? Reach those speeds but not sustain it for a long time due to speed checkpoints, my car is going in today at the tire shop I'll have them check everything that has been posted in this log. Will give my diagnostics when it's complete |

OP how many miles have you driven your Z? Prior to getting my Z, I was driving a 2014 Honda pilot(which has john deere tractor steering feel). When I first got the Z, the car felt super twitchy, I was holding on to the wheel with 2 hands afraid the car was gonna veer off the highway from a tiny bump in the road. Long story short, you may be overcorrecting. It took me at least 3-4 thousand miles to get fully adjusted to the Z. If you find no mechanical issues with your car this could be your problem. Follow the other members advice 1st...check tire pressure, alignment, have a competent mechanic check the car out.

Update
Just got my tires aligned. It did correct the issue 100%. Everything is in the cleae, they said my rear aligment was way off. So if anyone encounters this issue, here's you answer. And btw while driving I did not feel all over the road... even when I took my hands off the wheel of see what side it rolls too, it still went straight. Again thanks for all the input it's greatly appreciated. Z community is the bom |
