370Z loses to Mitsubishi and Subaru?

I am reading the September 2009 issue of DSPORT Issue #81. They report the following tests:

1. 2009 370Z
329 hp
0 to 60 in 6.1 secs
1/4 mile 14.26 secs at 103 mph (wet track)

2. Mitsubishi EVO X MR
329.9 hp
0 t0 60 in 5.49 secs
1/4 mile 14.14 secs at 100.0 mph (wet track)

3. Mitsubishi EVO X GSR
295.7 hp
0 to 60 6.02 secs
1/4 mile 14.52 secs at 96.7 mph (wet track)

4. Subaru WRX STI
304.1 hp
0 to 60 5.82 secs
1/4 mile 14.41 secs at 98.3 mph

According to this magazine, the 370Z has serious competition from the little 4-banger sedans and loses to some in 0 to 60 times. I have read the Z will do anywhere from 4.6 to 5.1 0 to 60 times but that is not what this magazine obtained. Can this be true?

Motor Trend's 370Z 0-60 time is 4.7 seconds. Though, it seems due to the wet track, all 4 vehicles show a slower 0-60 time. The EVO's and the STi didn't seem to lose as much time compared to the 370Z due to the AWD however?

wet track + AWD = ownage over the Z

In that same issue they name the 370z their car of the year, so they must have liked it either way.

Exactly....:iagree:

AWD in the wet is tough to beat when the cars are close to begin with. I wouldn't worry about it. "Most" of us didn't buy this car for it's 0-60 or 1/4 mile times..

Of course the Z lost, duh. It was a wet track, and obviously traction was a real problem, hence the relatively slow acceleration of all the cars. And with traction limited, AWD cars readily out-accelerate rwd cars. I'm looking forward to my dad's jeep commander out-accelerating me on the snowy days this winter :(

The STi and EVO are both much more expensive and not nearly as nice, so let them have something on the Z!

I've seen several places where the numbers for turbo fours are better than the numbers for the Z, but for me that's not the only factor in my purchasing decision. If you look at long term reliability a 6 is going to outlive a turbo 4 and the simpler rwd will outlast an awd system. Ever notice that you don't see too many older turbo cars on the road?

But yeah, the EVO and STI are some badass cars.

umm 3 of those cars are AWD so their advantage is exaggerated in wet conditions... the Z is a RWD car w/ summer tires - what do you expect? And the X MR and the X GSR DO NOT have 330hp (I used to own one)...

Mitsubishi EVO X MR is very fast car. Even 135i couldn't beat that car. I believe it's a tad faster than the 370z too (even in dry traction). Since you mention wet track, the outcome is understandable. AWD will have advantage over RWD.

Those other cars are butt a** ugly!

shabarivas 11-10-2009 12:56 PM

hmm... interesting... according to all the evo X talk ive been part of (which is a lot) - the X GSR runs the quarter mile significantly faster than the X MR - it beat out the 135 on a track not to a quarter mile.
