Curious about new spare transmissions and engines Nissan USA stocks
Hey guys, just had a random thought. Earlier this summer the transmission in my Nismo was replaced under warranty. Service advisor assured it was indeed new and not rebuilt or remanufactured. Is it likely that this transmission was picked from an inventory that would have been used for, say, the original equipment transmissions in the brand new 2015/2016 Zs?
Or does Nissan allocate a particular replacement stock for such situations? I would hate to find out that this transmission was a new spare way back in 2009 when the car was introduced, which would suck because it's been sitting and I may have missed out on any revisions since. Questions applies to engines, transmissions and other big ticket items. Thanks! Last edited by Rahul718; 01-15-2016 at 11:31 PM. |

Manufacturers keep a limited supply on hand at their warehouses across the country. Most likely, you will get what is spec'ed for your model year. If there is no changes in a part. All years will get it. But if there is a change or revision. That part may only go to cars with that change or revision. Cars before that may not get it. If it affects safety or emissions. Most likely, you will end up with the revision. With the Feds involved. It depends on the moon phase, tide, sun angle, who's sitting behind the big desk, and if it's that time of month.
In a nut shell. You may or may not get the latest and greatest.

Assembled and prepped right. Shelf life is indefinite.

The older tranny part numbers will be superseded by any revisions on the particular part. You will get the latest and greatest part. Nissan doesn't want you to come back because of an issue if they can help it.

Bull sh!t. Nissan is using up what they have in stock. Manufactures only have to carry stock for 10 years.
Another question. How come some forum members had 2 manual trannys installed, a couple had 3 different manual trannys installed. All failed with the same set of problems. Doesn't seem like the latest and greatest.

Companies do not like to have a bunch of excess stock laying around. The more expensive an item, the more they dislike it. I doubt that many dealerships keep big ticket items in their stock. While it's possible to get a new "obsolete" trans or engine, it's not likely. Check casting numbers if in doubt.

Bad installation? Probably not with the factory unit; possible with replacements. Operator error (poor shifting technique, thrashing the gears, &c)? This seems most likely to me. YMMV

As far as I know, the tranny and engine are the same from 09-16. Would the opposite apply here too? What I'm asking is if it's possible for the brand new (2015-2016) Zs to have large power train components dating back to 2009 such as engine and transmissions installed as O.E.? |

If you search. There have been a lot replaced because of bad syhcro's. 4th and 5th gears mostly. Some for 2nd gear. The gear-sets themselves are tough.
