Luck continues...
Long story short... I have been working with this Nissan dealer that is only an hour away from me. He has a leftover 2015 Sport (MB, manual). I do love black (my Q60S I have now is obsidian black), but I am so OCD that I told myself I wouldn't buy another black car. I am really happy with how "clean" my car looks :shakes head:.
Anyway, my 'Q60S values at about 28-30K for clean trade in, but my payoff is close to 34K. After weeks of discussing back and forth, he has offered me 34K for my car (trade in), and 31K for his Z. He has it listed at the sticker price of $34,789 (which is ridiculous I know). I had planned on picking the car up last night (first time I saw it up close). I went to the dealer on new years day while they were closed. I was able to kinda see the car as it is parked next to the glass walls of the showroom. Last night when I saw the car up close, I found they clearly did not put any care into washing the vehicle. There were swirls and lings EVERYWHERE. I eventually went on to find a 3-4 inch actual scratch on the drivers side mirror. At that point I left. I told the salesman that my Infiniti now, with 10k miles on it, is in better shape than this "brand new" car. I SPECIFICALLY asked the lady on the phone if the car was spotless. I am assuming they will try to contact me today. I'm sure they will either offer more money offer, or to try and buff the pain and fix the scratch. Advice on this? |
I wouldn't let the dealership do anything to the paint - very few of them have the equipment and knowledge to fix it. When they do have the equipment, the job is usually delegated to the same guy that washes cars for minimum wage.
Look through some of Junkman2008's paint repair/maintenance threads on this site and see if the scratch is something that you might be able to repair. Or take the car for a test drive and visit your favorite body shop for an estimate. |
:iagree:
I paid for some exterior paint protection warranty on our new Honda recently, and I made the dealer redo it three times before finally giving up. They even had me meet their head detailer (not impressed :ugh:), who said he was going to do the work personally, and they gave it back to me with a giant scratch still remaining across the rear trunk deck. The warranty covers scratches, door dings, rock chips, bird crap etchings, etc for five years, which is why I got it. I wouldn't have let them touch the paint in the first place, but they said they had to apply some stupid product they said prevents scratches :bs: How ironic they caused a $hit ton of scratches applying the product :shakes head: |
I would ask them to see if they can order you (from another dealer?) another Z?

It is almost much easier/more likely to strike a good deal on a dealer's inventory versus ordering or bringing a car in. |

You can tell them to professionally get rid of the swirls/scratches. AND upon your careful review and satisfaction on how the car looks, you can make the deal. |

Or walk. I probably would if the scratch requires more than a good buffing. Quote:
If you took the I to a dealer, that's what you can expect. |

I took it to a body shop that is located near an Infiniti dealer. They told me they work on Infinitis all the time, so I assumed I would be safe. As far as body shops and dealers go, I trust almost none of them. They are all about making the quickest/easiest dollar possible. Quality work is rare to find. |

It will take some work to find a good shop but they do exist. I couldn't be more pleased with the shop that fixed my Z after I wrecked it. Log on to some local BBSs and ask for recommendations/warnings |

But the fact is they had to prep the car for application by polishing it. And they did a terrible job the first time. The second time was much better overall except for two panels. The third time was even better but there was still one long scratch on the trunk lid. I made them acknowledge that it was there and then drove off without letting them fix it. |
I once saw a Nissan "Sales Person" clean a smudge on a brand new car with a Subway napkin and he was going to town! He also applied lots of pressure in a zigzag motion.
I was like  |
