370z oil cooler issue at Nissan Korea
Hi guys!
I read the article from Nissan Korea, They recalled 09 370z and they decided intall oil cooler to all of 370z for free. Also, they are going to sell intall the cooler to all new 2010 models. After test drive w/ oil cooler 370z, they were pretty satisfied. After hard&fast drive, oil temp was 125 Celcius. What about Nissan USA? We need oil cooler too. |

Based on Nissan USA's statement on this it's unlikely to happen here.. Quote: Originally Posted by Nissan USA The 370Z has an engine protection system that reduces peak engine speeds when the oil temperature exceeds recommended levels in order to protect against possible engine damage. Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370. An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item. The oil cooler is a Nissan Motorsports item and as such is sold without warranty, express or implied, unless expressly prohibited by law in which case the warranty provided is the minimum required by law. The installation of the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler does not, by itself, “void” the vehicle warranty. However any damage caused by the installation or use of this part is expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan New Vehicle Limited warranty. |

so all koreans race their 370Z's? or is this some marketing scheme due to too many spec racers in korea claiming their Z's are just too damn weak on paper? hahaha
no need for an oil cooler for my driving needs on public roads... maybe nissan can make a future track edition with a stripped down base with oil cooler for those of you who need it. but if you look at modshack's DIY for the cooler it doesn't seem that hard to install an aftermarket one... |

I think the profit margin for Nissan is MUCH higher in countries other than the US. We've always been a bit of a subsidized market. They're probably hosing the Koreans on price, so no big deal to throw them a bone... Plus, you know how the Koreans and the Japanese don't get along...There might be some hidden motivation here!....

I think warm countries like S'pore,Malaysia & Brunei need the oil cooler more, but so far no news from our agent, normal city driving, temp can reach 100 C[212 F] easily.

Wow...will this issue EVER be put to bed???
I'm about 300 miles shy of 16K on my car (got it the second week of January) and I've driven it in just about every condition out there including Arizona and Nevada deserts and 100+ degree weather and at numerous autocross events; I take care of my cars but I don't baby them - I've yet to have a problem. I'm not trying to discount legitimate concerns but really, if you track your car or if you are just worried about it then get a cooler and get on with life and enjoy your car!

Hey any time I can get something free from Nissan that probably should have been there to begin with, Im all for it. This car was made to be driven hard and when you do you do get some high temps so one would be good to have when it is driven hard so they should put one in.
