starting to hate my z.

as soon as the cold weather came in my z have been giving me nothing but issues. first my check engine light comes on and off at random time for engine misfires for months now and today the stupid key light turned on while i was driving to walgreens. i was able to turn on and drive my car back home but the light stayed on. i guess i have to fix the damn steering wheel lock issue now. hopefully pulling the fuse out will work wonders for me

Z_ealot 12-16-2015 10:32 PM

A little over 130,000 miles here and no issues besides ones caused by neglect from previous owner lol

Spooler 12-16-2015 10:42 PM

Sounds like your Keyfob battery needs to be replaced. That is what mine did, it gave you a battery level at the same time for the keyfob.

Maybe I do have a wonder car...I've had some problems with mine for sure, but at way higher mileage, and most things have been known problem areas.

Point is hang in there. LOL Every car will have the odd glitch.

Duc_Z09 12-17-2015 06:18 AM

OP: Misfires are caused by either timing (doubtful), fueling, or spark issues. Do you run injector cleaner? Have you ever changed your spark plugs?

Right before I put the old girl up for winter, the key light was coming on and off for a few weeks. I changed the fob battery and even had Nissan look at it and they could find nothing wrong. I decided to use the spare fob and the light never came back on again. So, in my case, something happened to the primary fob. Now, I need to get another one to replace the bad one and all should be well.

mishuko 12-17-2015 07:32 AM

both my key lights came up. i lost one of the fobs cause i swapped it with the spare. fk me. oops. lol

That sucks, OP

My Z loves the cold weather; she gets peppy :driving: I've got 73K miles on my 2011 with no major issues. I pulled the steering lock fuse early on, and most of the clutch hydraulic system has been replaced before any failures other than the master cylinder.

havent ran injector cleaner since beginning of this year, and havent changed spark plugs yet just kinda waiting for it to be not so cold and being a little lazy.

Heres my first point of concern. How many MONTHS do we wait to diagnose, and repair?? Your Z probably hates you now........just sayin'

I'd start by addressing those 2 issues first since it's cheap and easy (especially injector cleaner). I know they say plugs are good for 100k but IMO that's BS; I change mine every 50. A set of NGK iridiums will run you about $120 and take about 2-3 hours to install if you take your time. You have to remove some plastic covers, the strut tower brace, and the upper intake plenum. Then you need to have the correct socket (it's small). It's an unnecessarily complicated PITA compared to the Mustangs I'm used to, but it sure beats paying the dealer to do it.:tiphat:

Worth the wait. 400+ factory horses, engineered for FI (bottom end and heads were specific for twin turbo)....The next Z will be a pleasant surprise. That new generation V6 twin turbo will be a gamechanger. Reminds me of the Z2 TT days!
