two questions

I went to the stealership and paid $22 for a gallon of the lifelong antifreeze. Is it worth it?
Also checked on tires for base 18 inch and Tires Plus had 4 Goodrich runflats installed for about $770. I never see anyone talking about them? Are they worth it?
THANKS

You answered your own question.

Jimbo370 12-12-2015 09:34 PM

could not get it anywhere else that I am aware of?

DavidZ370 12-13-2015 03:53 AM

antifreeze is fine, the rest i wouldnt trust them with my car.

barncobob 12-13-2015 10:23 AM

my honda and nissan I always use their antifreeze and auto trans fluid,
for tires id look at Tirerack, hard to beat prices:excited:

JARblue 12-13-2015 10:36 AM

What color is the coolant? Green or blue? You want the blue. That seems like a decent price from a dealer - overpriced like everything but not outrageously so.

Runflats are usually very loud and very heavy. I would not sacrifice performance for the convenience of not having to change a tire :driving:

Chuck33079 12-13-2015 11:22 AM

Not to mention run flats ride like ****.

wanker 12-13-2015 11:34 AM

Do not purchase run flats. They blow.

Next, anything auto-related that is claimed be "lifelong" in marketing nonsense.

Jimbo370 12-13-2015 12:46 PM

1. Thanks for the advice on run flats I have no 1st hand knowledge on them I want lighter tires and quiet so they don't make the grade.
2. The antifreeze looks bluish green. the previous owner kept up with the maintenance at the stealership under warranty. No problems just thinking the anti-freeze is 6 yrs unless there is coolant drainage maintenance in 3 yrs.

SouthArk370Z 12-13-2015 01:11 PM

Antifreeze is like most other fluids in a car - you can't change them too often.
As per wanker, there is no "lifelong" coolant.
$22 sounds a bit high but it's not outrageous, especially at a dealership. Personally, I'd see if I could find a cheaper alternative.
I agree with what everybody else said about the run-flats - not a sports car thing. Fantastic for certain applications.

mishuko 12-14-2015 07:09 AM

don't get run flats for this car... it's already loud on the stock tires

get yourself a nice set of summer sport tires or some nice winter tires depending where and when you're driving.

get the most tire you can reasonably afford becauses the tires are what keep you planted. not how many ponies you can muster up.

Smashley 12-15-2015 01:58 PM

I love the stiff sidewall handling of my run flats:confused:

FPenvy 12-15-2015 02:00 PM

i think last time i got the blue coolant from Nissan it was $20 so that's not bad at $22.

kenchan 12-15-2015 02:21 PM

yah $22 sounds reasonable. good buy.

which reminds me, i should probably replace my coolant next season on my Z..
but only 18k miles or something on the car, the coolant looks clear and blue.

probably not needed.

honestly I've never changed mine just added if it got low. mine is still crystal clear and blue. just about to crack 51k miles this week/weekend most likely.

I am at 72k and have added water already thanks for the insight

yah, i might go another year or so too... no sense drain/filling it if there's no discoloration. it is mostly water anyway..

u're in florida so u can just use distilled water as far as we care. :D

SouthArk370Z 12-15-2015 05:18 PM

Antifreeze does a lot more than just lower the freezing point. It has corrosion inhibitors and various other additives that are necessary for a healthy engine. While the ethylene glycol that most AFs use will maintain its cooling qualities for a long time, the additives "wear out" over time and need to be replaced.

I don't know how long modern additives are good for but I like to replace all "long life" fluids in a car (AF, transmission and differential lubes, &c) every 30-50K miles/3-4 years or so. More often on older, "classic" cars. YMMV

kenchan 12-15-2015 05:47 PM

maybe change mine next season then... :ugh2:

barncobob 12-15-2015 06:32 PM

30K is a good point, stuff wears out(additive/corrosion preventitive) cheap upkeep, id stick with factory fill..this and auto trans fluid....:eekdance:

ramoszx12r 12-15-2015 07:34 PM

One of the problem is that AFs get acidic, so you got to change it before it get to that point.

vtec to vvel 12-17-2015 10:32 PM

wait what? coolant is blue? mine is green. the coolant in the reservoir is green and the coolant itself from nissan is green. perhaps because mine is the one that you have to add distilled water to (i.e. not the pre-mixed coolant)?

vtec to vvel 12-17-2015 10:34 PM

okay, nevermind. apparently after doing a search, the 09 models came with green coolant.

yeah same here. even with my 07 350Z, i got her at 16k miles and when I traded her at 81k miles, i have never changed out the coolant.

09-11 came with green coolant, 12-present comes with blue and has a pressurized coolant system

mine is an 09, blue coolant

DOOMMONKEY777 12-18-2015 12:48 AM

Ok antifreeze u got ripped off by about $11, also make sure the coolant is the same color that is in the car, i had an issue with some sevice techs putting the wrong colot in, "everything will be fine he says" 4 month in my coolant is brown to black color.

Runt flats, take em off and burn them, they are the most terrrible thing u can put on other than wrong coolant, one pothole made a friend of mine crash his bmw, and the pothole wasnt even all that big, where a regular tire would go over it no problem(even a low profile like myne). Their walls are weard. They are terrible add on in my opinion, not worth it, u do have a spare, use it. Plus they bubble on potholes. Gl OP.

..........my 09 came with blue.

Let's be clear, the coolant is not labeled lifelong. Nissan is not suggesting that you don't ever need to change your coolant. The term they use is Long Life. There is a difference. Typically, coolants are good for about 150K miles or 5 years.

The Nissan green coolant is concentrate (must add distilled water) and rated for 105K miles or 7 years. The Nissan blue coolant is pre-diluted (50/50 mix) and rated for 135K miles or 10 years.

There should be no problem mixing the two colors provided they are pre-mixed as required. The blue can just be added straight because it is pre-mixed. The green should only be added straight in small quantities when a slightly heavier mix is required for colder temps. Otherwise, the green should be pre-mixed with distilled water to the appropriate concentration. Once the green is mixed properly, it can be combined with the blue without issue. Nissan just says mixing the two colors reduces the life to that of the green coolant :twocents:

My guess is that idiot tech poured a large quantity of straight green coolant in your car to get that kind of result but who knows :wtf2:

10yrs? cool i guess i DONT have to do the coolant drain/fill afterall! :D
one less thing i need to do in 2016.
