Go ahead, pull out in front of me...

Before my 09' Z I had a Pathfinder. Between my 09' Z and my 15', I had a Dodge Challenger. What I noted, and this is anecdotal not scientific, was when in the two larger vehicles, I had way less problems with people pulling out in front of me versus the Z's. Also, in the Z's, I have more occasions with people tailgating, usually a large American truck. Also, those who pull out in front of me from side roads, driveways, etc., seem to sit, watch, wait, and then pull out. They can see me. It is as if they are calculating it is okay to pull out in front of a small car versus a larger one. I had the same problem when I road a motorcycle. Maybe its just me.

The problem I have is people on the expressway not seeing me and changing lanes, almost side swiping me. I don't think this is a Z problem...more idiots that don't have clue how to set their wing mirrors. If you can see any part of your car in the side mirrors, they are set wrong.

Yeap, douche bags will ride your bumper, pull out in front of you, try to merge over onto you, and it is such a pain in the butt. "I'm just trying to enjoy my car, please leave me be!"...... Such a pain sometimes.

It is harder to see and judge the speed/distance of smaller objects*. It's up to you to PYOA. Use Defensive Driving techniques.

*Same for very large objects. If a tornado looks like it's standing still, there's a good possibility that it's moving straight toward you.

Agree...

With all the above.

JARblue 11-24-2015 11:44 AM

Just another reason to run a dash cam in the Z.

Inspector71 11-24-2015 02:45 PM

Jarblue

You are all correct and the dash camera is something I need to consider. When I see the number of people feverishly working devices as well, it led me to take as many back roads as possible to work.

i've had a few incidences where people would change lanes into me. from 18 rigs to a prius.

i think it's the size and the other people not having mirrors adjusted.

then again i had a NX cut me off. the best part is i saw his side mirror and it had the blindspot indicator as red. people just don't look.

people are idiots and unfortunately we are in the recieving end of said idiots.

Mirror Adjustment

From the car insurance newsletter....drivers side, lean your head left against the window...move mirror out till you can barely see the side of your car. Passengers side.. Lean right , do the same. This covers the "blind spot" with all three mirrors covering different areas. As an overtaking car moves out of the rear view mirror, it moves into the side mirror. This has worked really well for me over the years in my Suburbans, and have been able to make some snap decisions/moves,..but for the Z it ain't perfect. I still have to be extra careful.

This is exactly what I've done for the past 20 years. I started to counteract the miata's blind spot.

People are just stupid. Gallardo almost side swiped my brother luckily for him he noticed last cause he wouldn't have liked to get run over by a F150

When I was learning to drive my father told me, "if you're going to pull out in front of someone, pull out in front of the nicest looking car you can. You know they'll slow down, and they'll have good working brakes."

Works really well too, until I'm in the nice looking car and ***holes are doing it to me.

Karma...

That is crazy! Same happens to me. On the Highway I like to just cruise to work and back home (average 63 mph). I am always in the far right but people like to tailgate instead of passing from a distance. So what I learned to do is what I call 'find excuses' which for the most part is getting fair distance behind a Big-Rig so that other drivers behind me can see that I cannot go any faster...It works all the time! I build my Z just because that is what I like doing...Turning the wrench (retired aircraft mechanic) and like, no LOVE, the Import Tuner scene (lived in Okinawa for 12 years surrounded by FDs, 1Js/2Js, RBs and SRs); not to drive like I stole it and put others in danger. Wanna Race? Let's go somewhere where only you or I will possibly get hurt.
