Warming car in the morning?

every single time I get in my car I always let it warm up until the engine heats bubble is at operating temperature. Maybe it's a little overkill but I do it for piece of mind

Listen to your sister's fiancee.

In the summer and for a cold start, wait until the engine speed has settled down, about 20 seconds or so.

unless you're under -40C no need for warm up. just drive gently until the oil temp is 180-ish.

I wait for the car to settle down from the cold start, then go. About 30 to 45 sec. My car will be warmed all the way by the time I am at the end of my road. No need to waste fuel. The car will heat up faster if a load is placed on the engine. With todays fuel injection systems and oil, it's silly to warm up a car. It's old school carburetor thinking. My diesel truck won't even warm up unless it is driven. If I had to wait for it to warm up at idle, that would be 45min at least.

That's how I roll, fire it up and go, I don't care what the temp is.

But really if it's cold like when i'm in northern Canada in the middle of winter, -40C I let it warm up at least a few dots. Summer when the rpm drops to it's normal idol I go.

I let it warm up for 5-10 minutes while I get ready, then baby it till I hit my on-ramp. By that time the oil is just about up to operating temp, about 160. Take it slow in 5th until I'm past the bridge and the atrocious seams between the tarmac and concrete, then up to cruising speed.

After that I can hoon it with confidence.

I just follow what it states in the owner's manual. No problems so far.

4. Warm-up
Allow the engine to idle for at least 30
seconds after starting. Do not race the
engine while warming it up. Drive at
moderate speed for a short distance first,
especially in cold weather. In cold weather,
keep the engine running for a minimum of 2 -
3 minutes before shutting it off.

i let my car out of the garage as i warm up... rather not circulate the co and co2 back into my car. let it sit until the needle starts dropping. then off i go.

i shift under 3k (try to) until i see the 3-4th dot of the coolant. i'll go freespirit as soon as the oil needle moves 1 notch
