The problem with buying a cheap beater for the winter is that is when you really need something reliable. Who wants to be stranded out in the cold. I got lucky...my folks hardly ever drive in the winter so I use their Toyota for my winter car.

Don't worry. I found a 2003 Mazda protege with 180k miles. It is super rusty but runs like a champ. There have already been some really cold mornings and it has fired up right away. I always reccomend getting a Honda, Mazda, Toyota or something similar
