Default Thinking of switching to 2016 STI

So I had my Z for almost 5 years now, it's still in great condition and I have no real complaints about the car, however I want to switch things up and I'm looking for a sporty 4 door car as a daily driver. I'm not a big fan of the EVO so I been leaning towards an STI. Haven't got the chance to test drive one but I wanted to hear some feed back from someone who switched from a Z to STI. Most of you will think of this as a downgrade but I'm not too concerned about that, I'm just looking for a more roomy car but fun to drive at the same time. I know this is a biased forum but can you guys input your thoughts on making the switch or if you think there is a better alternative. I plan on modding the car slightly, maybe an exhaust, intake and a tune. Let me know what you guys think, cheers!

A lot of members switch between the two weather its Z to STI or STI to Z, its definetly not a bad choice and its more practical than other vehicles, for a 4 door sporty you cant go wrong but you may find yourself missing the two doors.

Since you plan on tuning, this may be an oppurtunity to give the STI a feel of a Z as far as handling.

It is your own decision afterall, it sounds like you have gotten what you want out of the Z as far as enjoyment so why not

My buddy just got a 16 STI and I really enjoyed putting some miles on it a few weeks ago. Feels great in the canyons and the interior is definitely a step up from the last generation. It did feel pretty slow but then again so does almost anything after driving my car. Lol

It is a great handling car and the boxer rumble is just mean. Are you looking for out the box fun or something to build? From i've seen from reviews and peoples commentary. This is supposed to be the best one to date but the last one I drove was the 12.

Nothing you will buy will make you as happy as the Z.

I agree with the boxer rumble, with the right aftermarket exhaust, it will sound amazing but at the same time I love my F.I exhaust and will miss it for sure. I want to do some slight modding but nothing too crazy. Definitely will get a new exhaust and probably a tune to go with it. I'm planning on test driving it this weekend, I really want to compare/contrast vs the Z.

Subaru likes to void warranties for the slightest mods. Factory tune sucks, it's too lean under boost.

So basically, you probably want to leave it bone stock and let Subaru give you as many motors as it takes to reach 50K miles or put a tune on it immediately and enjoy the car as it could have been.

I have a lot of friends with subies and the ones that have had issues put the car back to stock and got a new motor under warranty. I guess this does depend on the dealer though.

They can tell the car has been reflashed, if they want to.

I haven't done too much research on the engine, how easily does it blow up, given that its bone stock?

I got a WRX 2016 STI for a daily
Fun car and lots of room , good in the twisties
Horrible gas mileage , and still not as fun to drive as Z

All said tho, If I had to just live with one I would take the STI just because of the daily and practicality of the car

Not gonna pretend to be an expert, but cracked ringlands seem fairly common on 2007+ STI driven by people who like to actually use the turbo, and it seems to be almost universally agreed that it's the factory tune.

It's basically the same motor they've been using since 2004, so it makes sense that it's the factory tune.
