Nissan 370z Fastest V6 Available?

I'll keep it simple, but I can't find a v6 comparable to performance off the shelf with specs close to the 370z. Is the 370z the fastest v6 from factory in todays market?

DEpointfive0 11-03-2015 12:35 AM

M3, takes money out of the equation though

lj909 11-03-2015 12:37 AM

Cayman gt4

Chan Chee Hoe 11-03-2015 05:11 AM

370z elder Brother,the GTR.

sx moneypit 11-03-2015 06:51 AM

BMW-inline 6.Cayman-flat 6.

Lukcas61 11-03-2015 07:03 AM

He probably means the performance for the money?

Hotrodz 11-03-2015 07:10 AM

Either way, he is pretty much right as far as N/A 6s go. The Z is right there with those fancy German cars.

ramoszx12r 11-03-2015 07:33 AM

Yes for the money an the best looking one.

Nixin 11-03-2015 07:43 AM

You also have the Lexus RC F 350, but the price is silly.

mishuko 11-03-2015 07:45 AM

in terms of NA arguably one of the best engines on the market and probably the best performance tuned one in the 3-4L segment.

as soon as you go into FI'd v6's... the m3/m4 mmm tasty.

the lexus is350/rc 350 engine is nice but it's not as nice as the vhr37's performance.

still one of the strongest contenders on the market

Duc_Z09 11-03-2015 08:13 AM

IMO the Z is still probably the best pure sports car on the market for the money. There are a lot of better things out there (Cayman, 911, F-type, M4, etc) but you're going to pay out the @$$ for them. The Z is a great total package for what you pay.

There are slightly cheaper options too (BRZ, MX-5) but they're pretty disappointing IMO.

If all you care about is going as fast as possible as cheaply as possible, get a 5.0 and add turbos.

Firebase99 11-03-2015 08:33 AM

Ummm...hello???

:tiphat:

osbornsm 11-03-2015 09:27 AM

Here's a V6 with a lot of power... retro too!!

edk370 11-03-2015 09:37 AM

Porsches are H-6 i.e. horizontal-6, not V6, and ditto for anything BMW has (not V6 but I-6). Plus I think he means NA.

I'm going either V8 (C7 Vette), M4, Porsche 991, or Tesla P85 for my next whip. 370 is a nice car for what it is, but I want faster.

DarkJak 11-03-2015 09:37 AM

For N/A V6's, I think only Porsche has faster cars (Ok, technically not V6's but still 6cyls). Otherwise, every other faster DD'able production car has more cylinders or forced induction.

mishuko 11-03-2015 11:30 AM

yea i restate my previous post... bmw's use i6's as others mentioned. whatever 6 cylinders that make pewpew with 2 snail trails adding a little more pewpew.

i mean who wouldn't be chasing 2 snail trails?

i mean fi.

NoHyperbole 11-03-2015 11:34 AM

The 2016 Camaro will have a 3.6-liter V6.

Exhaust 11-03-2015 11:43 AM

This is what I wanted to know. I was looking for a car that was comparable in price and performance off the lot, couldn't find one. Yes, porsche would be the the best contender but it wouldnt be in price. Mainly this question popped up because some asshat was trying to argue that any american muscle v6 would eat a 370z any day stock for stock. The conversation almost gave me an annurism.

birdman71 11-03-2015 01:40 PM

In that case if you pose a 2015 Ford Mustang 3.7L V6 and the 2015 370z 3.7L, depending on what type of tracking you do it can go either way.

You are on a track course with turns, the Z will have the Stang all day because the stang never can hit that Muscle Car Pull due to turns. In a straight AutoX, the 1/4 would be close... really close. anything 1/2 mile and above the Stang will win because of that Muscle Car Pull.
Have had plenty of encounters while all I had done to my Z was Rim's and Intakes.

In the end you can do nothing except let the vehicle's power state itself. Not many times when you get 2 enthusiastic people talking about different types of cars do you get a compromise unless one person gets tired of talking. Both cars are powerful just in different ways.

Kinda like how I am talking to people with EVO's (unless I know them) just because well 2 reasons: 1. the turbo's sound is annoying when they shift, and 2. EVO owners thing that they are all that and a bag of chips. When in reality the Nissan Maxima has a higher top speed than the EVO and is just as fast lol. Then they start usually talking crap about Z's since mine is there. Not only that they are some of the cockiest drivers on the street you will ever see and when they talk crap to me, well.. I Have fun.. I have baited multiples into getting pulled over for taking off from a red light and street racing just to screw with them, and then I drive by them pulled over nice and slow and laugh.

The 2016 Camaro v6 will most likely match Z performance plus give you backseats.

Wonka2581 11-03-2015 02:51 PM

EVO owners are pretty cocky.. But have you ever met a corvette owner? They have to be the biggest Di*ks around...

as decent as the V6 counter part to an american muscle v8 these days is, its STILL a v6 muscle car, and that is enough to lose all coolness

and the Genesis, im still on the fence...no where near as cool as a Zcar for sure....

Hotrodz 11-03-2015 02:59 PM

Like someone said earlier, the pony cars have similar numbers and may hold their own in a straight line, but that is not why you buy a Z. If I'm buying a pony car I'm not getting 6 cylinders...that just doesn't make since. Beside why would you want a car that everyone else has if you don't need four doors.

wait, Z's a muscle car? really? i never thought of my ride as such... thought Z's got plenty of power for street, plenty of punch to get you in trouble if one's not careful. :D fast but not too fast is the way to play on the street, imo.

Firebase99 11-03-2015 03:11 PM

I could never own a V6 Pony car. Cuz deep down, anyone who knows anything about cars, including ones self, will wish they had the V8. I dont care how fast the 6 cylinder is.

Hotrodz 11-03-2015 03:12 PM

The Genesis is more like a Z, G hybrid without the cool factor IMHO, but a 10 year, 100k warranty makes it a decent choice if you aren't going to add some snails to the junk under the hood.

but then again they are marketing the 4cylinder turbo stang as amazing. right. any man with half a testicle would want atleast 2 more cylinders. any man that is fully competent would get the 5.0.

My mom actually has a fully loaded 15 Mustang the V4 ecoboost turbo and it is actually pretty nice and roomy on the inside, has a little gitty up but not much at all compared to a Z, but then again she drives from the Beach area to Downtown LA and back everyday in traffic (roughly 50 miles round trip) and gets 22mpg in the traffic and gets closer to 30 when cruising. Well us Z's sitting in traffic.. 13.. 14.. 15 mpg if we're lucky.
Then again this car does belong to my mother. When I was going to buy my Z I was comparing with the 15 Mustang 3.7L V6, just didn't feel like having a car that turned like a boat. Nonetheless I was one looking for that extra 2 cylinders.

Whenever I get into a heated debate with a muscle car guy I tell them one thing, They are completely different cars. Mind would destroy yours on track and yours would destroy mine in AutoX anything past 1/4 mile. The 1/4 mile will be a close battle and rely on the shifting of the driver and the take off.
They usually shut up after.

I assume you're talking about the V6 muscle cars (can we call the v6 versions muscle cars?). Because, sadly for us, this argument becoming less usable vs the newer pony cars. A Z isn't touching a 2016 Camaro SS in straight line race or the track. I'm sure there's some things the Z can do better than the newer pony cars, but the Z is showing its age a bit. At least it still looks better, and I don't see 20 of them going to work everyday though.

Well my car purchase was going to be a daily driver. I don't much assume that the V6 "muscle cars" and legitimately muscle cars. They aren't. I know at that point I wanted the 5.0 which was not a daily driver friendly car.
And as for the Z showing in age, it is, but you also have to remember the new models coming out in 2017 and since the new models of 2009 you have to admit from 2009-2015 the Z had an amazing run.
If they go with the 3.0L TT it will be even more of a force to be reckon with on the track just because it will a lot easier to mod.
From what I understand the Camaro SS comes in a V8 only? although if it comes in a V6 it is understandable of the difference in exhaust tone I hear sometimes and also why I was able to beat some here and there.
