Trading 09 370z for 05 STI
I'm driving down to vegas to take a look at a built 05 STI tomorrow. I've owned my 370z for 3 years now. I love it but I feel like it's becoming more and more impractical. The STI is heavily modded and I'm gonna be very cautious about that. The car has about 120k on it. The motor has about 14k. The 370z is stock except for the exhaust and only has 32k miles. I'm being very hesitant about this trade. It's gonna be a straight trade. I hope I don't regret it. Give me your guys opinion please. Am I making a mistake?

Yes. Don't buy someone's project. Plus, a straight trade is a bad deal for you since mods don't add value. You're just buying a ten year old 120k mile car.

Please don't do that...
If you had to come here and ask about it, is it really a good trade?

Big mistake. Getting rid of the Z because it's impractical is one thing. Trading it for a 10 year old car with that many mods and miles doesn't seem like a good move.

First rule don't buy a modded car, who knows where the owner or installer cut corners to save time/money. Only exception if you know the car very well and it's history (like your neighbors car).
Second, someone else's mods really shouldn't be factored in to the price if anything deeply discounted as if you had to part them out and sell them fast. Finally your trading a (1/4) lower mileage nearly half age car for an even swap. The engine may be newer but the rest of the car is old. 10+years of aging on all the plastic and rubber and paint. |

here's an analogy question you should ask yourself.
chose 1: a) 27 year old brunette with a juicy azz and some chesticles to boot b) or 45 y/o middle aged hot-wife with 2 sets of twins, augmented teets and a bit of plastic surgery. well more than a bit. |

That's a first. Lol. I'd rather sell the Z, and then find a car that suites my needs rather than buying a car that might blow the motor by the time you get home.

That highly modded crap with high miles will be far more impractical than your Z. Even if it does have four doors. It will leave you by the side of the road busted down. Better to just buy a reasonable DD practical beater and ... um ... keep the Z.

Definitely not a straight trade. If you have to have this car then negotiate what kind of money you'll need in the bank for if or when something breaks.
