Trading 09 370z for 05 STI

I'm driving down to vegas to take a look at a built 05 STI tomorrow. I've owned my 370z for 3 years now. I love it but I feel like it's becoming more and more impractical. The STI is heavily modded and I'm gonna be very cautious about that. The car has about 120k on it. The motor has about 14k. The 370z is stock except for the exhaust and only has 32k miles. I'm being very hesitant about this trade. It's gonna be a straight trade. I hope I don't regret it. Give me your guys opinion please. Am I making a mistake?

Here's my Z

No to the trade imo, Z has only 32k and u going to a 120k second motor car

Chuck33079 10-06-2015 09:41 AM

Yes. Don't buy someone's project. Plus, a straight trade is a bad deal for you since mods don't add value. You're just buying a ten year old 120k mile car.

GZ3 10-06-2015 09:46 AM

ekkkk i wouldt!

Array 10-06-2015 09:46 AM

Please don't do that...

If you had to come here and ask about it, is it really a good trade?

ajm216 10-06-2015 10:06 AM

I'd pass on that one

sekz370 10-06-2015 10:08 AM

Wow, I'm glad I got other opinions except for my own. Sometimes the thought of a different car makes me blind to everything else. It didn't sound like a bad deal to me but obviously is to others.

Big mistake. Getting rid of the Z because it's impractical is one thing. Trading it for a 10 year old car with that many mods and miles doesn't seem like a good move.

jcasti07 10-06-2015 10:36 AM

do what I did and get a 2015 5.slow. hahaha! yes I miss my Z and will bash on my new car, but it was becoming impractical for me as well. This was a happy change for me

2011 Nismo#91 10-06-2015 10:42 AM

First rule don't buy a modded car, who knows where the owner or installer cut corners to save time/money. Only exception if you know the car very well and it's history (like your neighbors car).
Second, someone else's mods really shouldn't be factored in to the price if anything deeply discounted as if you had to part them out and sell them fast.
Finally your trading a (1/4) lower mileage nearly half age car for an even swap. The engine may be newer but the rest of the car is old. 10+years of aging on all the plastic and rubber and paint.

ramoszx12r 10-06-2015 10:42 AM

No do not do it. You will regret it later when is to late.

mishuko 10-06-2015 11:00 AM

here's an analogy question you should ask yourself.

chose 1:

a) 27 year old brunette with a juicy azz and some chesticles to boot

b) or 45 y/o middle aged hot-wife with 2 sets of twins, augmented teets and a bit of plastic surgery. well more than a bit.

cranzy 10-06-2015 11:13 AM

That's a first. Lol. I'd rather sell the Z, and then find a car that suites my needs rather than buying a car that might blow the motor by the time you get home.

:iagree:

That highly modded crap with high miles will be far more impractical than your Z. Even if it does have four doors. It will leave you by the side of the road busted down. Better to just buy a reasonable DD practical beater and

...

um

...

keep the Z.

vividracing 10-06-2015 12:06 PM

Definitely not a straight trade. If you have to have this car then negotiate what kind of money you'll need in the bank for if or when something breaks.

zguynate 10-06-2015 12:07 PM

Im with the other guys. Don't buy someone else's project unless you have the money and will to fix anything that will pop up. Not saying that it will, just that it could. Also the car is older by a few years and almost 100K miles. No thanks.

Davey 10-06-2015 12:17 PM

You've already made a huge mistake by even considering this.

sekz370 10-06-2015 12:17 PM

Thanks gents. Hahaha. You guys are awesome

He can do what he wants. Let him learn the hard way, that you never ever take a car that has heavy mods on it. You are getting someone else's project i.e. "headache," money pit, etc.

But live and let be.

Z_ealot 10-06-2015 12:51 PM

I say just look for a reliable cheap beater like a civic and keep the Z, that's the route i took lol

carlitos_370z 10-06-2015 01:12 PM

I said... dont do it dude... look for better options... i dont know if you are still paying your Z but if you still paying them go and give it on trade-in for something better and newer ;) just my 2 cents...

Nixin 10-06-2015 02:08 PM

Brutal idea, do not even think about it! Don't get stuck with someone else's lab rat.

Zipper 104 10-06-2015 02:20 PM

Other side of the trade

Geez...If I was on the other side of this trade I'd be rubbing my hands.

104

sekz370 10-06-2015 02:45 PM

I don't owe anything on the Z. I don't need a beater. I actually have 3 cars now. I'm debating cutting it down to 2.

Compared to the Z, its... pretty ugly. Old box look with no style. Do you really want to drive something called "STI"? It's like calling your child chlamydia.

No thanks!!!

Z_ealot 10-06-2015 04:03 PM

Wait....3 cars and you were debating on getting something more practical??

FiftyFiv3 10-06-2015 04:54 PM

I think we have other issues here..

Hell. Yes.

danegrey 10-06-2015 06:25 PM

what are the other 2 cars, are they more practical than a Z,
then again, I did not buy my Z because it was practical
I bought it because it was sexy, likes to run and be driven hard
and my gf likes to be seen in it...

Davey 10-06-2015 06:53 PM

Set your Z on fire and burn it to the ground, you'll lose less money that way.

Spooler 10-06-2015 07:44 PM

"Horse Trading" never works out well. Just sayin.

GZ3 10-06-2015 07:58 PM

pick up a little used civic for 3-5k gain that practicality back

EzDz 10-06-2015 08:06 PM

I owned a 2015 stage 2 and after losing it and going to my z i wont look back. I miss the fact i built my sti to where it was but thats about it. The sti is built but its not as much of a sports car as the z. The stock setup on the z really has me wowed. I dont know what kind of driving you do but thr z takes the win in the fun category aswell imo.The huge inside alone will have you missing your z. The short gearing is also a turn off. 5 shifts to get to 120... the z does that in 4th. The list goes on. An 05 is also lacking the stiff chassy of newerish cars. I say no sir

LA370z 10-07-2015 07:07 AM

That trade will probably not work out well for you in the end. All you will be doing is trading for all of his problems that he is having now that you don't know about and it's mileage is already getting high.

D.Stillwell 10-08-2015 06:38 AM

^^ Let me also add that, STI's and EVO's have too much of that boy-racer, ricer'ish stigma from most average people..

I've always liked those cars alot, but would never own one. The Z is so much more of a true sportscar, and you end up looking way better in one.

Also, AWD is for amateurs who think they can drive = RWD is a proper setup.

Three pages of negative response, I hope OP gets the point.
