RPM shifting and all general personal driving choices.
Hello ladies and gents! I am not sure of this is a place to post something like this right? I'm very new still and have no idea how to do or use anything...
Anyway, I was wondering what your individual and personal RPM limits where for shifting and down shifting? I usually try to vary between 1500-2000 RMPs. I prefer RevMatch off since it uses up more gas and I also drive with the A/C off as well to also help conserve gas. I'm @ ~21.4 Avg. MPG; Please do share your Avg MPGs and personal choices of driving as well My other questions would be: When on a hill do you coast on lower gears? Why or why not? Do you hit the gas while going up hill or do you just take your time at a leisurely pace? Windows up or down? Anything else or other personal driving choices are encouraged fellow forum fam! You are over thinking things and probably sucking the fun out of driving your Z. Give me Tylenol.

Why is my curiosity such a negative thing? Further more why am I being judged for my questions? **** I just want to know how you enjoy driving your Z but if not well fine...

Maybe I wasn't clear... My down shift is @ 2000-1500. Up shift is usually between 3500-4500. Personally I like to drive up the hills faster just to see what the machine can do. Unfortunately there's laws and 5-0 is unpredictable I'm already fighting a speeding ticket as it is and I believe I'm low on points...
I enjoy the windows down mostly just because I prefer a fresh breeze over artificial air, and it gives both my wife and I a headache. As for coasting I just don't know if it's healthy for the vehicle to leave it in neutral while speeding down hill. So why is that deemed as stupid? Simply asking for your personality type as a driver. F^%k sorry for taking interest in you ppl. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Your questions seem to be aimed mainly at fuel mileage. Very few (if any) people on this site bought a Z because of the fuel mileage.
"what your individual and personal RPM limits where for shifting and down shifting?" For "normal" driving, I usually upshift any car from 1500-2500 RPM, depending on the circumstances. Downshifts are made so that RPM doesn't jump too high. "When on a hill do you coast on lower gears? Why or why not?" Same as coasting on any stretch of road - I try to keep the RPM in a range that will give me some power if I need to get out of the way in a hurry. "Do you hit the gas while going up hill or do you just take your time at a leisurely pace?" Depends on the circumstances. I usually keep the same throttle pedal position (if there is no traffic) or bump it up just enough to maintain speed. "Windows up or down?" Down, unless it is terribly hot/cold or precipitating. PS: If you are worried about MPG, check out some of the hypermiling sites. (Or get a different car.)

I rarely shift my car under 3500 to 4000 rpm. Car seems to be happy at about that point. I always leave sport mode on,and why, because race car! On hills,I always give more gas, just so I can jump a couple cars ahead. I like to get to where I'm going in a timely manner. As for conserving fuel,well...

I'll putt around town at 1500rpm in 5th gear. Getting on the highway it's WOT in the lower gears. For hills, it really depends on conditions and amount of traffic. I've been known to gain quite a bit of speed going down hill. Feather the throttle gently going up hill arriving at ~60 mph at the crest.
Other than that, I slow down in the straights and speed up through the corners.

Simple, Get in car, crank it up, turn on climate control (Yes, A/C is a must), and drive however I feel at the time. Fuel tank get's low, put gas in it.
I do not worry about fuel mileage. I do not care what other Prius drivers think. IF they get in my way, I run them over with pleasure. Z car's have always put a smile on my face. I have never driven one that didn't. |

Drive it as how you see fit. If you are road raging it every day as people claim, don't expect 30,000 miles out of it, if you get there. Control the car, don't let the car control you, just because its a "Sports" car
