So, not being rich, I chose the better DD of the Genesis over the scalpel and fun of the the Z. Gen my offers 90% of Z performance with 120% comfort/ convenience. No it won't out run, out turn a 370. But 99% there's no way I'm utilizing 90% of my Genesis performance let alone the Z.
Fix your signature, it is urking me. Datsun only made the 260z in one year. 1974. They had 2 different models, The 1974 that looked like a 240z and the 1974 1/2 that looked just like the 1975 280z but with carbs.

What? The build date of my 260 was july of '78, with a sale of '79 season. 240 was like 73 or 74, youre WAY off son. I had one, so sit down and let the grown ups talk.

The other person is correct.

260z was made for 1974 only and there were two models. One with the 240z bumpers and the 1974 1/2 with the larger 280z bumpers. The 260z had two Hitachi carbs and 240z had two SU carbs. 1973 was the last year for the 240z. 1978 was the last year for the 280z with fuel injection. 1979 was the first year for the 280zx.

I had an 1974 1/2 260z with triple Webers, headers, cam etc. and an 1979 280zx.

260 was 74-78 build dates according to wiki. I agree.

We've hit there's when the stagnant base/sport 370z will be compared to the ever-evolving Hyundai Genesis coupe R-Spec. Both make similar numbers at similar prices. Sell about the same in numbers. Our cars hands down are the real drivers cars of the group. But truth is... If we evolved the Z at an equal rate as a Hyundai Genesis coupe. This review would've not sounded anything like this.

Areas we should have been progressing.

1. Updating our interiors with more features and better materials.
2. An LSD throughout the range. This should never have been an issue.
3. The base stereo... SERIOUSLY! SMH

These areas sound small but keeps our cars from competing with cars it shouldn't be compared to.
How'd this POS make it on a 370Z forum page,,,LMAO-cars don't compare/370 is a sports car & idk what the huyndai is? if i wanted a back seat i'd bought a different car....i'm 6'6" 285lbs & drive my ~Z~ 100miles + a day,,,very comfortable for me & plenty of power to (can't say it) my 2 cent's....i may jusy be an old 48yr. old fart;but i'm a die hard Chevy man & my ~Z~ has more leg room & (i can't say it) the ~Z~cars are in a class by themselves!!!

When I watched that comparison, I was a bit disturbed as well. I had to keep thinking that it was a price comparison, pitting two v6 coupes against each other. if you look at the comments, idiots are talking about Camaros and Mustangs with V8s. I simply reminded them that the V6 models would all be bested by the Z and probably by the Genesis as well.

As far as I am concerned, the Z is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. A great majority of the time, the owners modify the car. In that scenario, your poor man's Cayman goes out the window. A modified Cayman and a modified Z will come down to who spent more and who has more seat time (and balls).

Once I get back to the states, I will either get another NISMO Z (leaning heavily toward a 14) or go hard and get an 89-90 S13 Fastback and wait to see what the Z35 offers later on............

Its just a price point comparo... Thats it.... Anyone who knows anything about motorsports knows the Z is in a completely different league than the genesis....the hyundai is still in its infancy. Not to say its not a decent car,

Perhaps you should have kept that 1979 260z. It probably worth a fortune being the only one sold in US.

However, I think you are either mistaken or got ripped off when you purchased that brand new 1979 260z. Sorry.

I bought it used, in the army at Bragg. They said it was a 79, so it's a 78. Some fond memories. The 280 was bought at the same place. That was a beauty. Fire engine red and t top. Probably the most fun to drive out of all of them. That was in the late 90's.

I was considering a used Cayman, but I would have had to pay cash prettymuch as most banks will not finance an older vehicle. Then add on top the possible issues, I opted for a new car instead. Even if the Z is slower, I know it's going to probably be more reliable in the long run.

Would love a turbo'd cayman as a second weekend car, but nobody in Oregon knows how to tune them properly...
