Break in program? >3000 and the car "is" stronger?
Does anyone know if the 370 has a break in program? This sounds a bit odd but my car seems to have gotten quite a bit faster. Before anyone points out cooler weather, I have noticed the results in warm weather as well. Tire pressures are checked and consistent as well.
When I first bought the car it felt strong but not really "that" strong however, since it hit around 3000 miles the car now really feels and is stronger. 2nd gear will spin the tires in a straight line and from a stop, first gear all the way through most of 2nd if not all of 2nd, it did not do this when I first bought the car. Even if I am at a higher speed when I accelerate hard it jumps up to speed faster than it did when I first bought the car. I am not complaining, just wondering if Nissan had some sort of break in program in the ECU or if some mapping changed once it hit 3000 miles. Anyone else notice the difference? I have to say I am pretty impressed, not bad for a stock car!

My first instinct is to say that your tires are loosing their stickiness. But after reading the posts ahead of me, I think it is pretty neat if they actually have a 3k mi break-in

Doing the burnouts is reducing the diameter of your rear tires, so it feels faster, just like putting in gears... The Vette guys do this all the time. Keep it up and you'll learn the true meaning of "break" in... Uh....Just for the suckers, that's a joke too... The reality is, this motor is tight when new (reason for high oil temps) As it breaks in and loosens up, clearances improve, friction is reduced and oil temps go down. Some motors take longer to reach their sweet spot than others. The VQ seems one of those that takes awhile. At 4K mine is stronger now than ever... Last edited by Modshack; 10-28-2009 at 11:02 AM. |
