Got hit today by a negligent driver.

So I was taking my car to get it worked on. Was gonna black out my head lights and add halos to it. On my way to the shop, some 19 year old in his pickup ran a red light and t boned my 40th...

I don't recall the last time I was this irritated. He later gave me his insurance info and I filed a claim. I sent the car immediately to a shop here in Dallas that I trust.. But this is my first ever wreck, it wasn't my fault.. And I have him on recording on my phone admitting that he ran the red light and he says "he wasn't paying attention"

What do you guys think? Is it totaled? What should I do if it isn't totaled?

Very sad and pissed today..

See pics below.

Bad whiplash or nah? Since it's his fault, might as well go to the hospital and get it checked out IMO. That's good that you got him on a recording though..

Nothing crazy, currently. But it has only been half a day. Might be worse tomorrow morning.

Total or not will depend on unibody damage. If it's just the door and fender panel you're probably ok. Otherwise you're going to be car shopping.

Jordo! 08-04-2015 12:20 AM

^^^This.

Good luck.

jaedub 08-04-2015 12:24 AM

I'm glad you're not seriously injured. GL with the repairs and hope you feel better!

km1346 08-04-2015 12:25 AM

Thanks everyone. I'll keep this thread updated as I find out more.

Glad you're ok. Sorry about the car. I'll bet there's some frame damage.

axmea? 08-04-2015 01:13 AM

They wouldn't total that. Except for the A post (maybe bent - most likely yes), it is cosmetic/skin damage. Did you look underneath? Any leaks, straight or bent?

Good luck.

Zbrah 08-04-2015 01:17 AM

Sorry to hear man and glad that you walked away okay. Considering where the damage is it could've been worse. A car can be repaired or replaced. As mentioned before, if you're feeling soreness or pain anywhere, get it checked out to make sure you didn't sustain any injuries before signing off on any papers.

BamBamZ 08-04-2015 01:34 AM

I'd hope for a total loss... Sad to see a 40th go, But once repaired it may not be the same again. But I think they will total it. The rear wheel is pushed out of alignment somehow (spin into a curb?) so there's going to be possibility of some undercarriage damage if not just suspension.

If they don't this will be on the Z's carfax and it will diminish it's value pretty badly... You can ask/fight for the difference in diminished value by getting a trade in quote from a dealership and using that as evidence that the value took a big hit.

Zbrah 08-04-2015 01:39 AM

:iagree: if it's my car I would hope for a write off too.

Montez 08-04-2015 01:47 AM

Man, sorry to hear this, but good you came out without major injury! Just looking at that from the few pics that we have seen here I don't think that they will total it, looks pretty far from that point especially without and airbags being deployed. I do wish you the best regarding that, let us know what they do!

Trips 08-04-2015 01:56 AM

Wow! Glad to hear your Okay

I would definitely get checked out.

Injuries sometimes may not be apparent at first, But I would error on the side of caution.

If they dont write it off, I strongly suggest that before you sign off and take posession?

Have someone drive it and follow behind them if not you to make sure it's driving straight like it did before the accident.

Make sure you are totally happy before you sign off and accept the car in your possession.

Again glad your Okay and sorry about the Z

Didn't check underneath but there was coolant leaking once it was over.

Yeah I was just thinking if it was 4-5 feet over more towards the door he could've severely injured me. I will get checked out soon though. Thanks

Yeah I got spun out but not into a curb. I saw the rear wheel poking out as well and was wondering why this was the case. I kinda wish that it is totaled because the car will diminish in value greatly.. :(

Thanks for the advice. Hate to see this happen to my car. I'll check it thoroughly everything before accepting it.

Sorry to hear about that, glad you were not hurt. Not paying attention usually means texting while driving these day's.

JARblue 08-04-2015 08:52 AM

Glad there were no serious injuries. But I would go to the doctor and get checked out :twocents:

And if they won't total the car, claim diminished value, fix it quick, and then sell or trade it before the accident shows up on the carfax.

carlitos_370z 08-04-2015 09:12 AM

DAMN BRO! sorry to know what happen to your Z :( the best part is that you are ok and the Z... well is something that you can replace... Anyway i hope you can fix the car and looks like new again

kenchan 08-04-2015 10:22 AM

sorry to see and hear. :(

the damage doesnt look too bad. will need to see if the frame is bent, a-pillar looks unaffected which is good.

firulice 08-04-2015 10:52 AM

Man that's painful to see. Sorry

Jimbo370 08-04-2015 11:07 AM

Glad your okay. I got t-boned in a ranger and gave it the gas so the durango didn't hit my driver door. It spun me around and totalled truck. Girl was on phone before it was illegal. I hurt for a week. Ibuprophen may be your best friend for inflammation and cool showers. Praying for you

birdman71 08-04-2015 11:45 AM

Sorry to hear about the car accident and I'm glad that everyone walked away okay. Sad to say with pain from a car accident, very little of it starts on the first day unless you are really injured. At that point you go to the ER. My dad is a Chiropractor and one of the things he does do as extra work is Personal Injury Cases for attorney's he networks with etc. (mainly car accidents). 9 times out of 10 you feel some pain/soreness the first day due to adrenaline and shock. Once you sleep off the adrenaline and shock you feel every bit of it. Just make sure to not get discouraged if the pain gets worse before it gets better. Most of the time that is how the treatment process goes.

As for doing things at home to help the soreness, some light stretching of the inflamed area probably would be beneficial. Make sure to not stretch on cold muscles, never works well. I would suggest using a heating pack/pad for about 15 minutes before stretching

As for the car, well hope that everything works out well and it either gets repaired or written off as a totaled car. Atleast your lip and B pillars were untouched

My $.02 is that if the car is totaled take what you got off the car and put it on a new one haha (hopefully you have some sort of GAP insurance, chances are the Actual Cash Value of the car will not be the entire loan amount left, just depends on how much you have left to pay off)

Get yourself to a good chiropractor and so sorry about the car. I'd be heartbroken.

onzedge 08-04-2015 06:48 PM

I do not mean to bum you out, but this is a shot of my 40th after I was hit by a person also "not paying attention".

http://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos...f5&oe=563F19DA

It was totaled. The original estimate was $29,000.00.

b15 08-04-2015 06:49 PM

Wow! $29k? Crazy

If they wright it off, try to take all the aftermarket pieces of. At least you can sell them or put it on you new car.

Zerocool 08-04-2015 07:29 PM

Damn that sucks. I know how you feel. I was hit a month ago.

Z-Girl 12 08-04-2015 07:55 PM

Sorry to hear, glad your ok though. Hope they total that I would want it after that.

What was the labor rate?

What was part of the damage?

A top-of-the-line shop quoted this. They are guys who do outstanding body work. I do not know what the labor rate was but just the parts list included:

both front airbags
Seatbelts
Windshield
both fenders
hood
left strut
engine wire harness
front fascia
left headlight
subframe

That's crazy! I gave it to a pretty good shop to repair as well. Hoping for a write off, but none of my airbags came out since it was a full side impact. I will find out later this week what the damages are. If they do total it. I plan on taking all my aftermarket parts and putting it on another Z. Hope they give me a good valuation for my car if it is totaled.

I still have always been amazed at the Z's saftey and impact resistance.
