Making a Big Move.
My wife and I are being transferred to Orange County, CA from work. We have lived in Chicago and now the bottom of Indiana, so CA will be a new experience for us. I’m looking for advice on a good Nissan dealer, any Z events (car shows, cars & coffee, etc), and recommendations for living in CA. We will be closing on our house within the need three weeks and making the move.
Anyone that rides a motorcycle; It’s been many years since the last time I owed a motorcycle and my wife’s excuses - that there is only a few months out of the year you can ride and we have young children are now a the thing of the past. So is the traffic that bad that’s it’s not worth get a motorcycle? I would want to get a sport bike/street bike if I were to get a new bike. I appreciate any advice. |
I don't know about OC since I've been living in LA most of my life. When you do have a motorcycle just make sure you're not being a **** and just expect cars to move out of the way for you. And California doesn't really get a winter so you should be able to ride for 9-10 months out of the 12. The dealers here in LA kinda suck but there's a lot of shops that you can go to.
And living expenses in California is through the roof than most other states. |
I moved to Santa Barbara from Massachusetts a little over a year ago. SocalZ is a great Z club, and if you're into track days, there are quite a few of us going to the track regularly. A motorcycle is a ton of fun for the canyons. The riding out here is great if you aren't stuck in traffic. As for shows, there's a big show in Fontana in November, Nissfest. It should be pretty huge. For OC shops, Corner3 is the way to go. They're in Laguna Hills

Get a motorcycle KTM Superduke 1290, don't use it to commute. Some amazing roads here in SoCal!

Our master calendar website is nowhere near ready but check out ZG Events - Master Calendar for Z and G Car Club Communities
We're putting together a calendar of events from all other Z and G clubs/groups that are scattered throughout California. Check out the bio page to get a quick glimpse of what types of events and or people you'll be involved with. |

Irvine cars and coffee has become Aliso Viejo cars and coffee. It doesn't have quite the same rings but it's every saturday morning.
I've recently made the move to the OC, myself. |
Nissan Dealerships -- Go to Fontana or Duarte. Both are not in OC but I highly recommend because many members have great experience especially with Fontana. Surf City Nissan in Huntington Beach too.
Shops - Corner3 in Laguna Niguel or better yet Specialty Z in Canoga. Buy a pair of nice beach chairs. You will use it a lot. I always give way to motorcyclists and allow them to get through ALL the time. I'm after the peace sign or the thumbs up for some reason. Member fredstah rides a bike and goes out in the canyons when he's around. He's from OC. And the food --- endless. Good luck on your move. |
A great car show is Cars And Coffee in Carlsbad, It replaced the old CnC Irvine since it was broken up earlier this year. Its about an hour drive south from where you will be moving.

Me personally... I would never get a motorcycle and drive it out here in Southern California. Too many drivers that do not know how to drive. Motorcyclists I believe are also the majority fatality rate with car accidents in CA as well.
Now there are plenty of open parts of CA to ride a motorcycle around, but sorry my friend Orange County and LA county are not those places to do it. Mid-Northern California gets better. Honestly the state I would love to go riding a motorcycle around in is Oregon because of how beautiful all the scenery is, how fresh the air is, and how open the roads are. |
