I think your question is loaded and too many variables. How is it versus a mustang? Well depends on owner, location, maintenance, luck, etc. how long a car goes has more to do with owner and maintenance than brand in most cases. Sure if you have a dodge you will replace things like the radio 27 times in a 500k mile timespan, but how long it "lasts" just depends.
Typically the people/cars who go forever are owned by people who maintain whenever anything wears or breaks. Typically people who let things go, usually turn their car into scrap early. If the body starts to rust and you let it go, then radio does and you wear headphones, turn signals break and you use your arms eventually a transmission goes and you ask.... Why would I buy a 2000 transmission for a car that's rusty with no radio signals etc. if you are kind that maintains car perfectly then you say. 2000 trans for an otherwise perfect car or $800 a month for 5 years for a new one. The car I sold to buy the Nismo had over 300k on it. The car ran perfectly and all options worked. It was clean, shiny, well maintained. Others with 1/3 of the mileage that didn't see the love, ended upon junkyards. So it wasn't the car, it was owner and routine. |

He could get hit with a lot of the known issues of the Z. CSC failure, bad ECU, oil consumption, etc...
If you're lucky, this will happen within the warranty period. Preventative maintenance is good, almost requisite for any car--but some are more prone to failure than others so I think that argument is kinda moot. |

No your missing the point. YOU may choose to junk your car or trade in at 75k because csc goes bad out of warranty. Not everyone. It isn't that the car failed, it's that you decided not to fix. Again loaded question. You could argue that csc failure you replace with elimination kit, the ecu, many cars have those issues. The question is what your definition of last is? Google some of the people who have records with cars with most miles on them. They will have replaced engines, trans, suspension, paint, are fanatical about maintenance.
None of them say... Well I got to 150k and a $600 csc failed so car is done.... Their story will include... I've replaced csc 10 times, etc. It doesn't mean that they went 2.3 million miles with no problems other than oil changes. So my accord EATS rear brakes, it's a known issue. I consider it cost of doing business. I had 2 separate co-workers who sold same gen accords because it "always needed brakes" . I have no other issues with car myself, so every 2 years I put on new rear brake pads. Honda won't recall because the rear brakes are undersized. Instead they sell revised pads that still die way too soon. But again, I kept mine. Better to be 20 brakes than engine. I "could" also add aftermarket big brake kit and eliminate the issue. But in my sample size 2 out of the considered the car "failed" |

As a few guys mentioned it really depends on what you consider "life span" The whole car? The original numbers matching engine? If you swap parts/engine rebuild, body work as needed the car could last 100 years...
If it's just how long till you have to replace something major, depends on your maintenance. If you never change the oil...you may not last more then a year. Unless you never drive your car. Then there is time vs mileage? LOL Currently my goal is 400,000 kms (250,000 miles) before I sell the car, currently i'm at 363,xxxkms (227xxx miles) and as also mentioned nothing really more then the common problems we've all seen with the car.
