Lol on calling a Z purchase as an investment. Sell unless you've made up your mind about keeping it forever.

Well if you consider it an investment then all cars by nature are a bad investment. To me all it represents is a car that gets me around as needed and provides what I consider important from a vehicle at an affordable price, ie: looks, acceleration, reliability, handling etc.

90st experience is reassuring. I would love to keep the car for however long it remains reliable. I am hoping that is at least another 50-75k miles. I'll probably reevaluate it in 2 to 3 years when it gets to 150k.

97k here. My car has been perfect mechanically and the interior is in like-new condition, just rebuilt the clutch like you, I replaced the shocks and brake rotors at 65k, otherwise stock. I plan to keep my car for 3 more years, then I may keep it as a backup daily driver and buy an R8 or something really fancy.

I know this post was a while back but my csc went out twice before I put exedy stage 2 clutch on it (mistake for daily driver). Bought the car brand new in 2010. At 3k miles the csc went out and again at 11k. Nissan replaced transmission because some of the gears were bent. Replaced clutch around 48k with the exert clutch and light weight fly wheel. Couple weeks later went out again. Replaced it with Z1 csc delete kit and no issues since. Nissan makes a cheap csc. I have over 108 miles now. I was debating on getting a newer Z but wanted to keep the one I bought myself brand new. I just had the steering wheel lock part go out. I'm sitting in Nissan now with my belt that just broke passing the Nissan dealership going to dunkin donuts haha. Made a U turn and pulled into Nissan with no power steering.

What are some preventive maintenance things to do for over a 100k mile Z do this crap doesn't keep breaking?

To prevent CSC from going out you did the right thing. As for the steering wheel lock, pull the fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Wont happen again.

100k Maintence (since im having to do it right now, im at 99,200)
Clutch, Flywheel, Pressure Plate, CSC elim or HD CSC
(Right now im about to install my ACT clutch flywheel and pressure plate. And also am about to install my Z1 csc elim kit.
Rear Diff
Axles (if you ever want to boost or want to make sure they aren't wearing)
Engine- upper/lower manifolds, Rods, Cams, Heads, intake filters.

With enough money you could make this car last for a very very long time.

Earlier in the thread there was mention of water pump replacement. How involved is this? I recall reading on the g37 site (I think) that it involves a lot of R&R, something about the front timing cover having to come off to gain access to it??

Edit: I just looked at the fsm. It's a cluster f*ck to get at it. The above is correct about the front timing cover removal.

tl;dl $$$$$$ to replace water pump.

Other than basic maintenance you should have to do much, i'm over 240,000 and have had to do very little. Belt should have been done around 60-75K...I do mine every 60, along with plugs and full fluid change, other then that listen to your car...it will tell you when things are going. My hubs were not making nice sounds so I changed them. My oil report was great for the mileage I have and have not done any thing to the engine other than oil changes. You can check out my thread, problem over 200,000 miles for more info.

If I still owned a 370 and reached 100k miles, I'd be considering a motor swap...with a V8 of course. Some say it's blasphemy, but I think it's novel (for a little while at least) and cool. I don't care about issues like reliability because at 100k miles my perspective is that you already got the most out of that car. Any car at 100k miles is essentially a "project" or "rebuild" car in my eyes, and the price should reflect that too.

Default 168K and going strong!

Hi. I’ve got a 2102 370z touring with 168.5K miles on it. I bought it with 400 miles on it (used!). Previous owner leased it and decided to trade it in for a BMW 2 weeks after buying it new. Thanks to them, they took the depreciation hit, and I got a great deal on my “new” 370z.

I’ve always used Mobile One Synthetic 10w30 or M1 Synthetic Extended Performance motor oil and filters. Always changed oil every ~7000 miles for the regular synthetic, or ~10k-11K miles when using the Extended Performance oil.

I’ve replaced brake pads once or twice and have had rotors turned once. It’s time for another rotor turning or replacement. Always have used OEM brake parts.

Only other problems I’ve had with car is my horn, and I suspect it’s a loose cable.

I’ve inspected the drive belts every 30k miles or so, and it looks fine so I’ve never replaced it.

Always have run Premium gas.

I did replace transmission fluid at 100K miles (at the dealership).

Car is running fine, should I replace my spark plugs? Most of my driving is highway, and I put an average of 145 miles a weekday on the car. I also sit in my car (quite frequently) while it idles during my lunch (with AC running). About 1 hour a weekday average.

Thanks all!

-Z

This thread is helping me consider a higher mileage Z. Felt stuck at 16k+ to get a decent Sport without 100k miles but maybe I'll just suck it up and save some $$$. I want to have enough to buy parts, and other fun things lol like motorcycles trucks etc
