I agree with Sardis. The Z4 and the 370Z are not even in the same arena. They are completely different. In the nissan/infinity worth the only thing close to compare with the Z4 would be the G35/G37 IMO.
Even then, the G wins! I just got rid of my G35 to get a 370Z for that more nitty gritty sports car.Test driving and price comparison would seal the deal for most though. If you are married, the wife might lean more towards the Z4 cause it is "CUTE" HAHAHAH! :rofl2: |
My co-worker bought a brand new 3 series here in Germany and he does not have the 4 year warranty plan like they get in the states. He also did not pay as much as people do in the states either. Like I said before, you pay for it one way or another! :icon18:

And the modding bs here is crap also. If you modify your 370, you can bet Nissan will not warranty the car either. |

Also I find it puzzling that BMW will replace a part that was/may be, clearly wear and tear and possibly carelessness by the owner. If that is so then good on BMW and I guess the extra money you pay for the BM goes into "claims" like these. |

i have driven both. get the Z4 sdrive35i with the 7 speed dual clutch.
the engine note is great, it's a bmw so fit an finish will be nicer than the Z. plus with the ecu upgrade it'll be making big hp numbers easy. it's a much nicer car than the Z. |

Onto the BMW comparison- get the Z or get a Porsche. I am a fan of BMW sedans but nothing else. Price out used Cayman's and then make the choice but the bloated Bimmer is not as rewarding as the Z. Now the Cayman-well a much different matter! Good luck- if you get "stuck" with the Z you will be drving one of the best cars on the road that, IMHO, "suffers" only when comparing it to P-cars. Goodluck |
The Z hands down. Reason being,
1) Even if the bimmer were to exceed in performance it would be marginal. 2) I would have 13k for mods. 3) refined engines bore me, I like screams, grunts and jerks in my ride. 4) I want a car that's on the road, not in the shop. What good is a sports car if the mechanic shop has possession of your car more than u can drive it? 5) BMW though is a great performing car when its running but its way overrated. Just cuz yuppies prefer it doesn't doesn't make it the holy grail of cars. The way the car is reviewed vs my experiences driving BMW, I feel that reviewers hype it to a level of near unrealism while nissans up until 2008, reviews have been wayyyy underrated. I rather drive the underdog car. |

I understand what you mean. ;) |

Definitely a wear & tear item w/ a little negligence on my part. No, the extra 15k goes into replacing my defective door trim. Sheesh. |
THE Z WINS!

thanks guys for all the valuable feedbacks that were left here. Well I got the Z4 over the 370Z. As some had rightfully pointed out, its not an apple to apple comparision, even though Top Gear and Best Motoring videos will want to have you believe.
Reasons why I chose the z4 over 370z as below, and my reasons might differ greatly from yours. 1.Price difference was not a consideration. 2.Need a more refined car as a daily drive. 3.Dual Clutch option on the Z4 4.Wanted a convert, the roadster version was on a indent basis and I didnt want to wait 5.I honestly have a slight preference for the z4 body style over the 370z. What made me consider long and hard 1.Known HPFP issue with the z4 twin turbo engine. Got the dealer to commit 3 yr full warranty on parts and labour before I can have the peace of mind to get the z4. 2.I will not have as much fun driving the z4 compared to the 370z, and thats a fact. |
^Congrats on the bimmer. Post some pics!
|
thanks! the 1st pic is when i collected the car and 2nd after I changed the rims

Nice color, has a lot of character.
Great choice on the new rims - huge improvement! What's next? |
I think you made a good choice! You had excellent reasons. I also perfer the looks of the Z4 vert over the 370z vert. As to the comment about the long hoods...I laughed at that!...it reminds me of the long hoods on the old first generation Z cars. The Z4 has a good engine and you can make some great power with a ECU tune. I really hope you enjoy your new car!! Congrats!

thanks guys for the kind comments! One more impt reason I chose the z4, like what many of you mentioned, a ECU upgrade costing $500 was able to give me a 100hp gain.
Stock comes 306hp and 400nm torque. one chip, with an intake and intercooler is giving me 425hp and 500nm+ torque now. Besides the power upgrade, I did up the sound system, which was crap to begin with. My one regret though is not getting a car with iDrive, the LCD in car system. |
The photos are taken somewhere in Macpherson area.?Anyway, our speedlimits just 90 km/h,your standard car will be fast enough.!

hey there nice to see a fellow singaporean here! photo was taken outside my place along thomson road :D
|
congrats! Can't wait to get my wife's next fall
|
Wow - that Z4 really does look a 100x better than the vert 370 lol
|
Real pretty. I had the same dilemma as you choosing between the new Z4 and the 370. The 370 won, in my case.
This new Z4 is SOOOOOOOOOO much better looking than the previous Bangley monstrosity. |
No doubt it's a very nice car! Great wheels and color choice! Congrats.

100 times better? The Z4 is nice but I prefer the 370 convertible, when both roofs are down. When up I don't know as i have not seen the ZED with cloth top up. Personally i also prefer the folding hard top over a cloth top, and that is also why i got the MX5 folding hart top as oppossed to the 350 vert. |
are you joking me? the 370 vert just looks like someone slashed off the roof and said... oops - now find a way to fold that thing back in... the BMW looks like it was MADE to be a convertible ...

Yea thats what im saying... I think it makes enough of a difference. Personally I hate soft tops - the Z4 has the best of both worlds other than the whole price thing

Sorry if this turns into a hijack, but I'll try to keep it somewhat on point...
I considered both the Z4 and the 370Z Roadster. In photos, the Bimmer looks much better than it does in person. The opposite is true of the 370ZR. Both are curvy, extruded designs, but the 370 is just so outrageous and mean looking, its proportions are betrayed by two-dimensional images. The BMW's comparatively more conservative lines are amplified in photography. It's hard to explain. You really have to see each. Otherwise, performance is fairly close. The 370 wins the price battle. The BMW is more refined. At that point, you vote with your heart, like I did. I've wanted a Z car since high school, when a 280ZX caught my eye for the first time. I grew up in a small town nowhere near a Datsun dealer, and had never really seen a 240 or 260 before. The TV spots calling the 280ZX "Awwwwesome" were what got me initially. By the time I got out on my own, I couldn't afford a 300ZX. Then, they went away. The first couple of years of the 350Z, my timing was off. I went for a couple of BMWs during that time, as I liked their styling better. When the 350Z Roadster came out, I hated it and opted for a 330Cic instead. Then, I decided I hated that heavy, 4-seat cruiser and got rid of it. Then, my industry started to tank and I had to drive Hondas for a couple of years to compensate. So, finally, the stars were in line. There was a new model of Z out that was beautiful -- more beautiful than anything from BMW, in my opinion. I could afford it. I needed a new car. And did I mention I had secretly wanted a Z car for the past 23 years? Rock on. |
get the z then save your money for a supercharger ;)
thats what i would do lol |
Grats on the Z4 - the new ones look f-ing amazing.
