Anyone who can easily read through the service manual know which wire we could tap to use for the alarm trigger???

Trunk/Hatch Pin - red or orange - negative polarity - BCM, gray 40 pin plug, pin 35
Hood Pin - lt. green - negative polarity - hood switch or IPDM E/R, white 16 pin plug, pin 14 (me loves the +rep)

to make things easy, here's the other wires also found at the BCM:
12 Volts - white (40A) - positive polarity - BCM, black 3 pin plug, pin 1 Accessory - orange - positive low current - BCM, black 40 pin plug, pin 31 Make sure to fuse all taps into power with an appropriate fuse size (probably 5A or 7.5A).

I'm sorry for the dumb question but what does BCM stand for and where is it located? Wouldn't it be easier to tap at the fusebox near the driver footwell with a fuse tap? I'm a little confused with the trunk hatch pin or hood pin. I tap one or the other, correct, not both...correct? I'm guessing this is the best way to tell the sensors the factory alarm is active or not active? Seems like a strange way (tapping the trunk or hood wires) to tell if the alarm is active. Any info is appreciated. |

The BCM is the Body Control Module, most commonly referred to as your Computer. Most cars now have a BCM and an ECM (engine.) I belive the BCM is located in the passenger kick panel in the Z.
You can tap into either one of the hood or hatch pin wires, but definitely do not tie them together. I would recommend the hood, as it is the most difficult to open without actually already being in the car. Also, isolate the glass break and vertical motion sensors using diodes just to be safe. Tapping into the wire is to tell the car that the sensor has gone off. The Accessory input into the relay deactivates the sensors while the car is on, and the Timer holds the latch long enough for the car to start without causing issues. (While starting, most cars typically interrupt power on the Accessory leads.)

Looks like the Hood Pin found in the IPDM is in the Engine Bay; probably not the easiest to get to for most people.

I really appreciate all your help with this. The ultimate question - do you think it will work? I also want to add a glass break sensor, so that will be 1) glass break, 2) shock sensor, 3) tilt sensor. Wiring seems easy enough.

I do think it will work, so long as the factory "alarm" is designed to go off when the hatch is opened. The wiring diagram pertaining to the Maxima looks fairly correct, although I haven't looked over the whole thing.
All the sensors do is send a negative pulse when they detect something. So all you're doing is providing them with power while the car is not on, and tapping their negative output into the car's negative input for the hatch. There's nothing weird or computer-like to it. Shock sensors are typically a 4-wire hookup, and I can't remember what the fourth wire is. I'll look into it if I get some time.

Got everything and i'm ready to start the install soon. I'm sure it matters where the sensors are mounted (shock, tilt and glass break) so are there any suggestions on location? Behind the HVAC controls, behind the seats, in the rear trunk area where some people put their amps? Any suggestions on best location?
I'm guessing the glass break needs to be up front so it can hear the glass breaking sound. Is that true? Will it work under the dash or something? Thanks. |

I did this a while back so I might not remember some of the detail but following the instructions posted works great. I went with a tilt sensor, shock sensor and glass break. Every so often, I think it is the glass break that triggers a false alarm (I have it set sensitive) when I first get out of the car and I'm walking to where ever I'm at. Other than that, no problems at all. Not a difficult install - if you can do a radio, this is similar. Good luck with it.

Yes - when one of the added sensors (tilt, shock, glass break) are set off, it activates the stock alarm.
There is no aftermarket alarm (only aftermarket components to the factory alarm) and hence factory key fob. |
