Has anyone noticed this?
Camaros are starting to be the new Mustangs? These things are turning up EVERYWHERE now, makes me glad I didnt go with the Camaro and got the Z instead, I've seen maybe 3 in the city since i've had mine, i've already seen 15 Camaros today. Funny thing though, not one attempted to rev on me, shocking really. Guess they know whats up.

What's up is that a Camaro SS will spank a Z handily in acceleration.
The melt-your-tires-at-every-stoplight crowd has their icon back. The Z was never meant to roll with them. We should be glad they're not acting like jerks, at least not where you are, it seems. |

Still, not a huge fan of the Camaro. It's a good car all around at a great value, but a sports-car it is not. And, yes...they are more common than the Z, but that's partially due to the wider range in price from base V6 to fully-loaded SS. |
There will be 3 2SS Camaros and 2 GT Premium Mustangs by the end of the year in the parking lot at my job. I still have the only 370z. (there is an 81 280Z).
The camaro guys are talking trash, sure. They have over 420 HP and lbs/ft torque!!! Between traffic lights, I'm sure they'll get me unless they don't know how to drive. Those guys throw out the following all the time at work: - They paid less for a fully loaded 2SS than my Nismo. - They have a back seat. - They get better gas mileage (um...no) - They are faster. Usually the only comeback I need is, "Yeah, but I have a Z." |

I would have thought it would be a close race,there times are similar to ours from what I have seen on the internet. Now the real test will be to line up with one. Being they are a V8 and all that HP I actually would think there numbers would be better but Matt let me know when that happens and I show up and see if a 7AT makes a diff too and hopefully I will have my FIs by then for a little extra help.

Here we go. Let's go ahead and put it out there now. DRIVER'S RACE. BOTTOM LINE. A Camaro will not "crap all over you" in your Z.
I won't post them all here but feel free to look up the numbers obtained by your favorite magazine and you will see how close the numbers are. |

This thread = fail.
I have given and received thumbs ups from guys in Challengers, Camaros, whatever. Enthusiasts show respect. |

From Car & Driver: "Although looking over the long, beveled hood (of the SS) is a view every muscle-car fan will relish, the low roof, high waistline, and wall-like rear pillars make the car drive big (not good for twisty two-lanes), a complaint we also level at the Challenger. And these specs tell me a competent driver in a 370Z on a road course will "crap all over" a Camaro SS: <table><tbody><tr></tr><tr><td> Camaro SS </td> <td> Manual </td> <td> Automatic </td></tr><tr> <td> Acceleration </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr><tr> <td> 0-60 mph </td> <td> 4.8 sec </td> <td> 4.9 sec </td> </tr><tr> <td> 0-100 mph </td> <td> 10.8 sec </td> <td> 11.1 sec </td> </tr><tr> <td> 0-120 </td> <td> 15.4 sec </td> <td> 16.3 sec </td> </tr><tr> <td> 0-140 mph </td> <td> 21.7 sec </td> <td> 24.8 sec </td> </tr><tr> <td> 0-150 mph </td> <td> 26.2 sec </td> <td> -- </td> </tr><tr> <td> mile </td> <td> 13.3 sec @ 111 mph </td> <td> 13.4 sec @ 109 mph </td> </tr><tr> <td> 30-70 mph passing </td> <td> 6.3 sec </td> <td> 6.2 sec </td> </tr><tr> <td> Peak g </td> <td> 0.63 g </td> <td> 0.69 g </td> </tr><tr> <td> Braking </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr><tr> <td> 70-0 mph </td> <td> 149 ft </td> <td> 153 ft </td> </tr><tr> <td> Peak g </td> <td> 1.12 </td> <td> 1.1 </td> </tr><tr> <td> Cornering </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr><tr> <td> L </td> <td> 0.94 g </td> <td> -- </td> </tr><tr> <td> R </td> <td> 0.93 g </td> <td> -- </td> </tr><tr> <td> Weight </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr><tr> <td> Curb Weight </td> <td> 3859 lbs </td> <td> 3896 lbs </td> </tr><tr> <td> Distribution (percent f/r) </td> <td> 52.2/ 47.8 </td> <td> 52.3/47.7 </td> </tr><tr> <td> Speed in Gears </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr><tr> <td> 1st </td> <td> 52 mph </td> <td> 38 mph </td> </tr><tr> <td> 2nd </td> <td> 76 mph </td> <td> 64 mph </td> </tr><tr> <td> 3rd </td> <td> 110 mph </td> <td> 99 mph </td> </tr><tr> <td> 4th </td> <td> 157 mph (limited) </td> <td> 131 mph </td> </tr><tr> <td> 5th </td> <td> 157 mph (limited) </td> <td> 157 mph (limited) </td> </tr><tr> <td> 6th </td> <td> 140 mph </td> <td> 140 mph</td></tr></tbody></table> |

I'm 2 for 2 from sports cars. 350Z and WRX STI both gestured back. The WRX couldn't stop staring! |
Vette = Sports Car
WRX = Compact Sport Sedan |

To actually add some input, the Camaro is very popular, but I think currently your older generation is buying them up quickly. They want to re-live those days long ago and many have been waitin patiently for five(?) years for this car. |
