Thats is true haha i wouldnt call the oil cooler a full unbrella though, in nissan's case of the stock oil cooler i would say its a hand full of papers over your head in a thunderstorm

Most oils are good to 300 F or more. Limp mode (280 F, IIRC) will protect the engine. Keep oil temp between 210 and 260 F and you should be OK.

gotcha, I wasn't sure, as I have been hearing mixed things. I have an 09 (no stock oil cooler), and every time I see the temps near 220, i usually panic.

I've noticed, though, that if i turn on the AC, it somewhat cools the temps down?

When you turn on the A/C, the car kicks on both radiator fans.

I switched to Amsoil signature 5w30 just a few weeks ago. I have noticed consistently lower oil temps by 10-15 degrees, even on 80* days, and I do not have an oil cooler. I will say that it takes much longer for my car to reach operating oil temp though.

Previously I was using Valvoline Synpower only because I get it for free. But I wasn't comfortable with it anymore.

Good info, Im going to drain and fill with SS tonight. That oil can take a beating. Im curious what the redline users have to report with with temps.

Ok so we established the 13 MY 370z came with a useless factory oil cooler. I am yet to see any major posts showing evidence that this "update/revision" reduces oil temp compared to prior Model Years.

Looks like you may have already gotten things figured out, but FWIW, I have a 13 with the factory oil cooler. I recently added a 25 row Stillen oil cooler and am using Mobil 1 5w-30. Prior to the oil cooler, I would hit 210-230 with spirited driving in town depending on ambient temp. Now, it will stay right at 180 on the highway, 190-200 with spirited driving regardless of outside temp.

On the track, I was out for sessions of 15 minutes each. I was flooring it through all but braking/corner entrances and temps never broke 255. I actually like keeping the factory oil cooler because it helps keep coolant/oil temps consistent and actually heats the oil up to operating temp much quicker. The factory oil cooler does have one drawback, which is that it makes it very difficult to route cooler lines and the oil filter is very difficult to access compared to normal. That said, it takes maybe 1 minute to remove the oil filter whereas before it was 15 seconds. Happy with everything thus far.

It's really not useless, if anything it helps bring the car up to operating temperature quicker. Really it just helps keep the oil from getting too hot better than the 09-11 (though this is definitely a track band-aid). It won't really do much when your temps are between 190-220.

Curious what is the upper limits for the dyno and full synthetic oil in general?

My 2010 is at around 200 - 210 during normal driving with outside temp around 80's.

redline is the car. Everything feels smoother and the car revs easier. Temps seem to be cooler by about 10dg more than pennzoil ultra platinum. Tonight Im going to go drive it pretty hard and see where my temp end up
