The 370Z Lag

+1 for the tune. Throttle response was the biggest difference we noticed after our Z was tuned.

Isn't the lag feeling dependent on gear and rpm ranges? 2nd gear 4k rpm pulls feel pretty freakin' responsive in my 7AT in manual mode.

That's why I suggested to get out of D mode and others are suggesting a tune. The lag is the ECU calculating how far to downshift. A tune however can make it respond much faster by changing a few ECU settings. When in manual mode there really isn't all that going on. Hell even manual downshifting 2\3 gears is pretty responsive.

Does the tune have adverse effect on the emission?

There's a product called sprintbooster that may help you. But it doesn't really increase the actual performance of the car. It just boosts the voltage of the accelerator pedal signal to the ECU tricking it into thinking that you've pressed the pedal further than you actually have. So it solves the lag a bit without actually correcting the throttle tables in the ECU. At several hundred dollars for this product, I found a tune to be a much better use of my money.
