From there you head west out of Missoula and go the Lolo Pass (?) across into Idaho and down through the Sawtooth Nat'l Forest through Salmon, Ketchum (Sun Valley) to Twin Falls. The road into Idaho from the top of the pass west of Missoula is a fantastic stretch of fast, downhill sweepers. The peak just at the top had a massive forest fire back about 2004 which is an unreal sight.
The route is almost devoid of traffic. I cannot say it's an improvement over your proposed route. I can just speak for how awesome this route is, and most of your northerly route through WA, thru Spokane, is a big yawn.
It gets good again on your route from there down to Boise.

I'm thinking I might be too late with this.

Have a good trip.....and remember. The WA State Patrol has eyes in the sky. Don't ask me how I know.

Highway 12 does rock. Been on it over Lolo Pass many times. You should take that path there or back. Just make sure you do the little twisty bit Old Spiral Highway.

And congratulations on the upcoming wedding. Sounds very cool.

that sounds like fun. last time i visited yellow stone was like in the 80's... oh the rotten egg smell aka bad catalyst smell ..

I'll have to go this way one of these times, I normally just take I15, 18hrs Vegas to Calgary non stop. MT has some nice curvy roads and a 80-85 mile/hr speed limit, makes for fun roads.

How many days are you taking to get down?

In the last ten-twelve years or so we have done road trips to Yellowstone (Badlands, Black Hills, Devils Tower, Grand Tetons, and Hells Half Acre along the way) and Acadia from Maryland. Flew to Phoenix and road tripped AZ (Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyon De Chelly, Meteor Crater) on 4WD. The coolest part was driving up Schnebly Hill Road out of Sedona to I-17. Made great use of that 4WD. Drove my wife crazy, but we had fun.

That's awesome, gives you time to enjoy the twisty's. Just don't you both go and get speeding tickets. lol

Made it to Bonners Ferry last night, getting ready to continue heading south right away here to hit that road that was suggested at the start this afternoon, looking forward to it. Hopefully the rain holds off from here on out. If anything the rain keeps us at the speed limit haha.

Interested in hearing your opinion on the Old Spiral Highway. I remember it being way cool.

That highway was sooo cool, one of the best roads we've ever been on. Did it twice once going down then back up. Threw a go-pro on the bimmer and she followed me. When we get back ill post it online, its very cool.

We are now in Twin Falls ID and going to make the push to Vegas tomorrow. The roads in this state are awesome, so much better than the ones we have in Canada.

Bonneville salt flats isn't too far off your route. Even if you don't go out on the salt, its cool to see.
