Default Cop wrote my ID incorrect on ticket

Hey guys, so I got a speeding ticket for going 50 on 35. I was on my way to school in the morning and the cop on the motor cycle caught me with the radar gun I believe. Although I'm not sure he did because I didn't ask. However, I did not have my wallet that day because somehow I just couldn't find it in the morning, thus after receiving the ticket I find out he spelled my name incorrect by one letter and wrote one number wrong for my drivers license number. This is not a typical pink ticket by the cops. It was printed out and long because I guess it's a cyclist cop, and that's all they do is ruin citizens day. What does this mean? Am I going to be in the system? Did I get lucky? My address on the ticket is correct, however.

You were speeding. Take responsibility and pay your ticket.

How would I pay it if the ticket is issued to an incorrect identification number?

Looks like you might have gotten away with it. Unless your plate number is also there, which would give you a 50/50 chance

You will know in court. Go to court and see A the cop shows and B - you get a break. Bottom line you were speeding. So good luck

My experience has been that this would be insufficient to ensure that the ticket would be dismissed. Arguing you point, however, could be sufficient enough to attract the ire of the judge and get you no leniency (plus court costs depending on your state).

Mistakes in the writing of a ticket have a mythological ability to void a ticket. It's not that it never happens, but not to the extent people believe.

Hmmm, well the plate should be there so like a speed camera you can't prove who was driving?

They got your address and your tag number...if you don't pay the ticket and you skip your court date...you will likely get a bench warrant delivered to your door step by a Sheriff...you can bet on that, they can get more info on you than you think...they want their money, pay up buddy ! Good luck on your decision.

Being in law enforcement, the officer can ammend the citation at the hearing to the correct spelling of your name etc. and chances are you will still be found guilty. My opinion would be to call the department that issued the citation and ask for the officer and inform him of the mistake. Ask him if he would be willing to work with you in decreasing the fine. Honesty plays a large role in law enforcement.

Just to play devil's advocate, it all depends on the officer of the law enforcement you are speaking to. I told the truth once and it cost me 2 hours of my time on the side of the road just to find out that I was telling the truth.

I think H2O_Doc is on the right track here. The cop made an honest mistake (which, as Stealthrider2 points out, can be fixed), you are still you, and you are likely to piss the judge off with your outhouse lawyering.

Generally, if I chose to speed, I pay the ticket.

You won't get away with it. They have your address and plate number. He misspelled your name a little and got you lic # wrong by one number, but what are the odds that it wasn't you?. If you go to court they'll ask you if that was you that he stopped. Are you going to lie under oath?

Just pay the fine. You broke the law. Man up and take your medicine.
