Mustangs and Camaro's have never given the feedback to the driver like a Z does. Not even close. You would have a hard time putting that in those cars suspension wise. Handling wise, they suck. So my stance is this, two totally different sets of cars. The only thing in the class is a Porsche Cayman. That is why the Z is compared to it and not other vehicles. So, if someone is comparing a Z to a Mustang or Camaro, they probably can't drive anyway so what is the difference. Just my .02.

The person who owned my Z before me ruined the clutch (Chattering pig), He traded it in on a Mustang. Enough said.

You can do some fast laps in a Mustang... The S197 did just fine at going around corners. I agree that it didn't really provide the kind of feedback/experience you get from the Z. The BRZ/FR-S is really good at the feedback/feel aspect, too, although it's very slow.

To me the Z strikes a nice balance between the brute force of something like the Mustang and the "nothing but finesse" of the BRZ/Miata type cars.

Don't sleep on the Challenger speed. But yeah the handling and feel isn't Z quality. But we know the Z will most like be up to par in the next Gen with the "muscle cars" as far as speed.

The Z when in it's design phase... Nissan uses a PORSCHE CAYMAN to use as a benchmark for it's on paper stats. And it tries as hard as possible to give a similar level of performance. Of course the last and current iteration is course and unrefined, compared to a Porsche... Nissan is a FR platform while the Caymn is MR, but year one both cars got around the track in about the same time. The Z offering a visceral pro-driver experience while, the cayman glided through the track with ease...

The Z is designed to give you the on paper PORSCHE performance in a package thats similar in layout, function and form. Still each car gives a unique driving experience...

There's no way for me to say Anyything like this about a "Camastanger" when compared to a Z. Hence the Z being somewhat of a Porsche competitor.

All that said, I don't care. I love the Z experience, I love the total cost of ownership, and I love the fact that I can easily do work on it.

i like z cars but let's not fool anybody guys. Nissan themselves admitted the z needs to go on a diet for better fuel economy and better recognition. They aren't gonna get that with the current z that get almost as bad gas mileage as a 5.0v8. Also the Blind spots, the horrible thin paint and clutch slave Cylinder issues don't help... Also I had to change the csc at 18,000 miles...

You can definitely turn some blisteringly fast laps in a 5.0 if you know what you're doing. Bloated or not it's hands-down stock vs. stock or mod for mod faster than any Z and quite possibly the best performance bargain on the market today... hats off to Ford or you're just an ignorant hater/ricer.

However, there's a reason I drive a Z and that reason is because I buy my cars to drive, not to race, and driving a Z feels better than driving a Mustang. And I like Mustangs so it's not like I'm biased.

The saddest part is Nissan hasn't even confirmed a new z being produced and released. I don't really take " my source at Nissan" toobseriously about a new z until it's confirmed by Nissan themselves officially. Don't forget there's a new focus rs coming out on top of the already mustang performer.

I have a coworker who is a Porsche fanatic. He has me wanting to drive a Cayman just because I'm curious as to why it is twice the price of my z.

They have announced the Q60 coupe will be coming with a new twin-turbo 3.0L DOHC engine that is going to be replacing the 3.7L we all know. That car is most certainly going to be targeted at the M3/M4 and the RCF. Ford mustangs, maro's, and charger r/t's probably aren't even a thought for performance and certainly not the Focus. After that you will probably see the Z. The former head of Infiniti that changed everything to Q's is gone off to Cadillac he wanted to separate Infiniti from Nissan as much as possible, but I doubt that happens or at least I believe they will still share platforms.

Well there's this article from Jalopnik in Jan of 2014 confirming it is being worked on

Nissan Is Probably Cooking Up A New Turbo Z

Quote:
In a revelatory interview with Just-Autos at the Detroit Auto Show, Nissan chief planning officer Andy Palmer dropped some details on this new Z:

On a replacement for the 370Z, he said: "I know what the power train will be and I know it will exist. It would be reasonable to assume it will have a downsized turbo engine. There will be normal and Nismo versions."

There was an article after that saying they don't even know what direction they are going , they don't have anything ready ... If there would be a new z it would be like 2019 and they don't even know if they will call it the z anymore .. like I said there's a focus rs coming out, a new golf r. nissan doesn't even have a sporty car in the civic si,mazdaspeed 3 , gti segment. They already cancelled the idx, people want a smaller turbo car also they're being left in the dust. I guess they are satisfied with making little cars for India and China. The Mercedes partnership is weak when they announced it in 2012...
