I'm buying a Z in a couple of weeks. I'm ready to fly up to 1000 miles to pick it up if I find the one I want at the right price (Nice break-in if you ask me). It will not, repeat not have more than 20 miles on the odo. I'm not spending $36k on something that has been soiled by someone else.

Unless you're getting a 2010, you're not getting anything but the ones that were test-driven by tire-kickers or employees. |

Dealer demos are few and far between. Dealers don't have a fleet of test vehicles, Kannibul. The extended test drive I took was a demo driven by the owner's daughter. 5 other Z's on the lot were never driven at the dealership. Why would the dealer let them go out and rack up miles? Never gonna happen.

I would return the Altima, and get your trade back. That way you are back in control. Let them keep looking, and you can keep looking around as well. This way if you find something you have the power to make another deal. Right now you don't, becuase they are holding on to your ticket to shop!

Not necessarily, and maybe even then only if you put your foot down and demand it. A few weeks ago when I thought I'd found mine; it took a full day of back and forth to convince him to trailer the Z he'd found for me in, as opposed to putting 260 additional miles on it. There were other factors in, but all in all...we just couldn't come to an agreement on it.

That's be a deal-breaker for me. Either they trailer it or I walk. I'm not paying for a used, untitled car, short of them selling it to me at a used price. I was unhappy about the 50 or so mine had on it. I wasn't concerned over my Civic having 252 miles on it, it was a 12K car. For 40K though...they should stick it in a covered trailer. |

The vehicle the other dealership has with 700 miles could have been a demo or a vehicle they sold and came back (as in, the dealership couldn't get them approved for a loan, so the customer had to bring the car back)...in either case, unless if they're willing to give you a steal for that vehicle (which they won't because the car doesn't belong to them in the first place), then I wouldn't purchase a brand new high performance sports car with that many miles...
what I would do in your case, since the contract that you signed really has no value, is take your trade back, and go shop elsewhere....I would rather drive a little distance, and then purchase a vehicle elsewhere and drive it back and break it in at the same time... I think I'm giving away enough car dealership secrets, so I'll stop now...hehehe

When it comes down to the paper works and contract it should specifically show what you are getting I.E. exact car with VIN# on the contract. So regardless of color, the contract reflects the exact item(vehicle) you are purchasing. If they do not deliver exactly what is on the contract than it is void. I'm not a lawyer or car salesman by any means, but I've always purchased new cars and that is how my transactions have always turned out. Good luck.
EDIT: You should be able to get something for free here if you ask nicely =) illuminated kick plates maybe things like that. But you also have the right to be angry. I would opt for a calm resolution if I were you, you have a better chance of getting what you want if you ask nicely. Last edited by elmz; 10-21-2009 at 05:05 PM. |
