Dealer powershifted my car to diagnose and replicate a transmission issue..
 

I have an intermittent issue with the SRM sometimes going into 5th gear (never any grinds though) so I took it to the dealer. Sure enough they couldn't replicate the issue. I spoke with the tech who test drove it and he said that he tried various things to replicate the issue but couldn't, including power shifting. I got a little mad when he said that because isn't power shifting bad for the transmission? My car isn't grinding now or ever did but is it possible that what he did accelerated transmission wear or does it need to be done a lot to have any ill effect?

The car drives perfectly even after, no grinds or crunches or anything like that but I'm still a little worried he might have done some damage. I never power shift so I don't expect others to with my car as well.

Well, repeated power shifting will give you the opportunity to replace OEM with awesome aftermarket stuff. What a tool. Id be pissed dude.

I'd be asking the questions of the tech ...

Please define power shifting?

Is this a diagnostic method recommended by Nissan? Please show me that method in the manual.

Yea I'm a little pissed but I just want to know if what he did contributed to accelerated wear or if it's something that needs to be done frequently to be an issue? As of now it's shifting great in every gear at high RPM, downshifts are great too so I don't think there's an issue...yet

Any time one does a "power shift" it accelerates wear and tear on the drive train. Probably more clutch/CSC than anything else. At minimum, there is slightly less life left in those two items. Depending on how many times the tech did it, could be considerable loss of lifetime in those items. If it's working fine though, not sure what recourse you have other than what you have already said, never let that guy see or touch your Z again.

A power shift here and there isn't an issue. Not that I agree with the tech doing it, but there shouldn't be any wear caused from one power shift.

I'd do it very rarely on my previous ride - no transmission issues after 103k miles.

Not that I'm happy with that but my main concern is the synchros and gears with what he did.

He should probably not be doing that, and he's a moron for telling you. That said, your car/transmission is fine and I wouldn't worry about it.

and why didn't you request that you ride alone with the mechanic while driving the car?
