:( Not even one week of owning the car!

Went out to work this morning and some ******* tried to run me off the road, apparently I "cut him off" and he was upset.

To avoid the bigger accident, I swerved out of his way and hit the curb. Of course the jerk ran off :(

No body damage, and thankfully I avoided the pole that was there but definitely feels like suspension needs to be checked. Side air bags deployed. Had to a file a non-emergency report since it is considered a "hit and run."

anyone know a good body shop in Austin? The adjuster is coming out tomorrow. I needed new tires anyways :P Maybe they will replaced the tires for me.

lj909 05-04-2015 06:08 PM

Holy crap! I'm sad for you.

birdman71 05-04-2015 06:15 PM

Dang phantom that sucks that that happened. Some people just do not know how to drive nor change lanes. I had that happen to me once too except the other guy almost hit me and it was because my lane was coming to an end and merging into the lane to the left. The guy behind me was trying to speed up and the entire time whomever the passenger was, was extremely pissed off. He was literally half way out the window yelling at me most of the time and kept screaming for me to pull over to fight. I moved over another lane and watch them go by. His daughter looked like she was driving and looked almost embarrassed the passanger was doing so plus two kids were in the back and this guy was trying to get me to pull over because I apparently " cut him off". A turn indicator apparently means nothing to anyone any more right?
Then again I live in southern California in LA where most everyone on the road fits the description above.
-doesn't know how to drive
-doesn't know how to lane change and check blind spots
-doesn't know what turn indicator means.

I mean the Z's blindspot on the right side of the car is almost non existent due to the huge read windshield. The one on the left side through next to your head suuuucccckkkksss.

Back to your issue on finding a body shop, maybe google or ask any of the vendors on the forums of good body shops that are around that they would refer you to.

Good luck though, I hope it's back to as-new very soon.

alcheng 05-04-2015 06:59 PM

dang... sorry to hear that bro...

Spooler 05-04-2015 07:42 PM

Yeap, the idiots are starting to out weight the good folk. You will get her fixed up. Someone tried to run me off the road also about a month after I got my car.

Yeah, won't know until I bring it to a shop but hoping it won't be longer than a few weeks :'(

SurfDog 05-04-2015 09:13 PM

SPL parts are fun, and might be similar in price to any OEM broken suspension parts. Make sure to have your frame checked for being bent..

Pintsize725 05-04-2015 09:54 PM

H&R Auto in Leander.

Where did this happen?

wanker 05-04-2015 10:09 PM

Dang. When an airbag deploys, you need to contact your insurance carrier and have your car checked out completely.

MR.nismo 05-04-2015 10:44 PM

Darkphantom, you did the correct thing by avoiding the other driver and all together avoiding a bigger accident. It sucks for the damage but rims, suspension and all the other parts can be replaced.

Smashley 05-05-2015 12:05 AM

check your lower control arms

i'm not sure i agree with that. by avoiding them, you hit your car and damaged it. now your insurance has to cover everything and more than likely your rates will go up. if it wasn't your fault you should have let them hit you. imagine if you didn't avoid the light pole and totaled your car or something.

File a police report or else most insurance companies won't cover it under uninsured motorist. And if you don't have uninsured motorist coverage in Texas, add it to your policy yesterday!

Maybe if you have $hitty insurance... I've only been in accidents that weren't my fault. More than half were people with no insurance, no license, and did not speak English. My insurance has never gone up due to accidents or tickets.

This same exact thing happened to me in my Sentra a number of years ago. Some jacka$$ ran me up on a median and I busted the oil pan and radiator causing like $3K in damages. I ended up paying my deductible because I didn't know I had to file a police report to get it covered under uninsured motorist, which would have covered my deductible as well.

darkphantom 05-05-2015 08:28 AM

Let me check about that whole uninsured motorist thing - that helps!

As for those asking where, it happened between Parmer ln and Howard ln on McCallen Pass.

Hmm, interesting. I just had to file a claim for a scrape that happened in a parking lot. Nationwide had me fill out a TXDMV crash report to have my uninsured motorist coverage apply but I still have to pay my deductible.

For the blindspot on the left, just lean forward and look at your side mirror, for the blindspot on the right, just turn around quickly to look from the hatch!

Phantom, sorry this happened to you, there really are some idiotic drivers out there. I hope everything is fixed!

:icon14:

I was pretty sure uninsured motorist coverage automatically included covering the deductible. Unless your policy is written differently. I might be tempted to ask them about it.

Amj2020 05-05-2015 09:20 AM

Cars are much easier to replace than lives. Cant you carry firearms in TX? If someone tried to kill me, be sure I would try to return the favor. Glad you are ok, and its just a car, time for upgrades!!!

Yes, but I'm not sure that rolling into someone at a few mph constitutes attempted murder  :icon17:

True but if you read his original post, he said the guy claimed he got cut off and attempted to drive him off the road in a fit of road rage. Not rolling into someone at a few mph.

darkphantom 05-05-2015 09:37 AM

I guess I can say i'm lucky that nothing major happened. This waiting game is already taking a toll on me! >_< The adjuster still has not come out...I want to get the car towed already to a shop and get a rental so I can somewhat have a normal work day.

lol my fault... I was mixing this thread up with another guy in Houston that got rear ended by a fat guy in a civic :rofl2:

I flipped off some a$$hole in a truck one time as he finally got out of my way to turn left and I passed him (after he cut several people off, including me). He took exception to that and got back over behind me and followed me home (just a few blocks away). I pulled into my garage and immediately grabbed my shotgun and proceeded to walk out toward the street staring him down. Smart guy didn't even stop and just kept driving.

Texas is full of scary drivers.

^Shot in the head for honking.

JARblue 05-05-2015 09:52 AM

And I should mention that Texas is a one party consent state, which means as long as you are part of the conversation, you are permitted to record it without anyone else's consent. I set my phone to video as soon as an accident occurs - I walk around a look like I'm taking photos, but it's also recording audio. Try and get them to admit fault and apologize while you're recording. I actually put someone without insurance on the phone with my insurance company and had them admit fault while we were still at the scene of the accident (what an idiot lol).

Amj2020 05-05-2015 09:56 AM

Everyone is like 500000x time tougher behind the wheel than on foot. I try and stay out of everyones way. I try my damn hardest to not even make eye contact or engage with anyone, which is not easy to do. The other day I was not going fast enough for someone and they passed me on the grass median of a highway at 80mph

ZeroZ34 05-05-2015 10:28 AM

Wow, some dudes are ********! I hope insurance company takes care of it.

Here's a little upside:

2011 Nismo#91 05-05-2015 10:58 AM

Glad your ok, hopefully the damage is minor. In NJ it is better to just stay in your lane/right of way and take the bigger hit money wise. But for the car the less items that are damaged the better, it's very hard to get things to like new after a lot of damage.

Not sure I agree with the sentiment of putting yourself in a more dangerous and far more unpredictable situation that would likely have resulted in serious injury for the sake of saving a few dollars.

this is something similar to always saying if you see a deer it's better to hit the deer then try avoiding it and maybe flipping your car or something. if they're going about the same speed and he hit him on his door it wouldn't be that more dangerous. imagine if there was a ditch where he swerved to or hit that pole head on that he barely missed. it's 50/50, in this case it might pay of for him.

darkphantom 05-05-2015 01:02 PM

You guys know anything about this PPG Waterborne paint?

PPG Refinish - Waterborne

Someone recommended me a shop and the shop told me this is the type of paint they use. I am not sure what the Dealership body shops use, but just wanted an idea before I ship my car over to one place or another.

There she goes :( It's a Nissan Certified body shop that the dealers all use so I hope it will be back to factory spec.

kenchan 05-05-2015 04:22 PM

GL on the repairs! :(

Its scary in TX, being from S.Cal but lived in Houston and Dallas more recently, they are way more aggressive and confrontational than they are at home in S. Cal which is car capital.....

nis350 05-05-2015 07:12 PM

That's scary as there are quite a bit of road rage in socal already.

OP -it must so upsetting to have this happened. Good luck with the repair.
