Unless I am misunderstanding something about the system (which is always possible), its just another form of NVH control. It's an electronic "resonator" or "muffler" rather than a mechanical one.

Unless I am misunderstanding something about the system (which is always possible), its just another form of NVH control. It's an electronic "resonator" or "muffler" rather than a mechanical one. It's not a synthesizer or something.
If it can be programmed to make the engine sound like a cat meowing or a horse whinnying, then okay, it's a sound effects generator machine, and that is lame/silly/potentially hilarious. If it's a noise canceler/harmonics enhancer then, at worst, it's an electronic acoustic tuner, enabling you to play with the tone via keyboard rather than mechanical valving, not really any different from fly-by-wire, EFI, or any number of electronic devices that have replaced the service of strictly mechanical ones. Really, now, if you could hit a button that cancels out guttural rasps when you change the piping rather than have to experiment with welding on new metal resonators, what's the problem?
