Yea, thats how I see a Z now. Adequate at best with 9 year old technology so my advice to you is get a GTR. Nissan has done little to nothing for the Z and it shows. Enjoy driving a car that once was phenomenal but left behind

I would agree that the American performance game is very strong right now. With the latest generation of Camaro and Mustang, they have done a good job of dropping weight and adding power, helping the pony cars handle much better. The Challenger still seems to fight on with brute force and ignorance.

My last track event, I set up in between a guy with a Hellcat Challenger and a guy with a new Camaro SS. They said they felt like they were fighting their cars keeping them on the track the whole time. They said the only time they were enjoying it was on the straight. They both left early because they said it wasn't very fun for them.

Meanwhile, my Z went exactly where I wanted it, and my instructor said that everything I did looked smooth and easy. After riding with him in his Mustang, I understood. He had to throw it in the corners and wrestle with it to get it to go where he wanted.

I test drove a 15 Camaro SS, a 15 Mustang GT, and a 15 Challenger SRT-8 before I bought my Z. I've always been a Z fan starting with my 77 280Z, and fell in love all over again with the Z33 and 34, but I knew they were down on power compared to the American pony cars, so I gave them all a shot.

Camaro, felt cramped in the interior, car felt big and heavy, power was great. Interior quality felt sub par, and the exterior looks were Ok, not great.
Mustang, interior felt good and comfortable, car felt more nimble and precise than the Camaro, power was good, and quality was much better than the Camaro. I thought it looked a lot better than the Camaro also.
Challenger, interior felt huge and comfortable, car felt very big and heavy, power was great, interior quality was about the same as the Chevy. I like the looks of the Challenger.
Z, small but comfortable interior, handling felt very precise, better than the pony cars, power was adequate, and interior quality was WAY better than the Americans. The Z is one of the sexiest cars on the road, IMHO.

The Z is not the fastest car in the world, but ultimate performance is not what I was after when I bought it. I love the style of it, love the layout and feel of the interior, love the handling and performance. The Z was a better car overall for me, because I was looking for a car I could autocross and do HPDEs in. If I was looking for something to drag race, I would have gone American. But it is kind of nice not seeing a Z everywhere, unlike the pony cars.

TL, DR: I drove the American pony cars before buying my Z, but they were not what I was looking for.

You sound a little upset. I would be too, if I had bought a Chrysler.

This whole thread was revived to brag about the 1/4 miles times of the Scat pack?

Agree it's quick, but if I was in the market for a Chrysler SUV, I think I'd get the Jeep SRT8 over the Challenger

Actually it was revived by a guy who used to take his Z to the drag strip regularly giving his impressions of his new car in comparison.

Tadpole, I'm still interested in making it out sometime. If you're still out there, I'll make the effort. I'll text you after I get some repairs taken care of in a few weeks

Fair enough.

But let's be real here, in regards to the comment above, the Challenger is not the epitome of technological advancement, it's just as outdated as a Z. It's advantage is that Chrysler keeps updating it with gigantic engines.

I'm not suggesting it is the epitome by any means. But comparing Dodge's advancements on the Challenger to Nissan's advancements made on the Z over the last nine years, Dodge looks like the fuckin Soviet Union in the original space race and Nissan looks like a non-participant.

I wasn't directing that at you. I was referring to this comment

This makes me infer he thinks the Challenger is so much more advanced. Especially with his advice of just getting a GTR because it's adequate at best. Maybe it's just how I'm interpreting it, but all I'm saying is it is just as ancient. Advantage, engines. We all know that's a Nissan fail. That is the only thing that keeps it in the game against Ford and Chevy. Aside from that, the Challenger is barely adequate against the Mustang and Camaro.

Adequate at best is the Challenger against the Mustang and Camaro.
FWIW, I inferred that he was comparing the advancements in the Challenger to the advancements in the Z over the past 9 years. For which there is no comparison. The Z seems like Nissan's red-headed step child at this point.

I'd also like to note that I'm not trying to talk **** about the Challenger, just being real as it's just as dated as a Z.

I do think it's a boat, but so does the rest of the world. There's a guy I talk to regularly at C&C that has an SRT8 with coilovers and a bunch of other suspension mods, intake and cat back and I think the car is great! Sounds wonderful

two different opinions on the same statement.

What's shall we discuss next? Trump?

I don't know about dated. Dodge has put far more into the Challenger than Nissan has to the Z. If you compare a 2009 Z and 2009 Challenger and then compare the 2017 models, the comparison are much closer now than before.

I should point out I'm not trying to defend Dodge by any means. I know a Jeep SRT8 that threw a rod with less than 2K miles on the car, and the dealership tried to deny warranty coverage

It's definitely been updated, I agree. I'm my opinion, compared to the current Mustang and Camaro, the Challenger, even with it's updates is like a grandpa on steroids. Where as the other two are like college bros pumping supplements/proteins. One can still kick your *** with just brute force. The others are agile, young and have other tricks.

I don't really care really since my Z is for sale and I'm not a fan of any of the three said cars. Really I'm just bored and kicking up dust until my flight this afternoon
