Default The rest of my csc story

Last year I posted about the multiple clutch failures of my 2009 Z. The dealer blamed the DOT. It kept happening. I did contact corporate offices in Tennessee. They "regretted" what happened but would not help me. The warranty expired in October when it when down time number 3 in November...and #4 in December. So, I got angry and traded it. I loved that car and the 6spd tranny. I traded it on a 2010 Dodge Challenger RT. The car is wickedly fast, like new (20K miles) and everyone loves it...but me. I have had sportscars since 1979. Yep, 6 Rx7s and one Z. The Dodge looks brand new but I feel like a captain piloting a barge down the Mississippi. Maybe it will grow on me but I doubt it. The short story is, I think I will sell/trade it as soon as it is safe (my wife won't kill me) and go back to the Z. Not a new one, but comparable to what I had. Damn did I blow it...big time.

I like the Z a lot as well, but if I had 4 CSC failures it would be the last Nissan for me...well maybe until the next gen Z comes =)

I needed to read that. You have pulled me off the ledge. I am upside down in the Challenger because I got too little for the Z. So, I'd be more upside down and wife shooting me. I did get a call from the new owner. Young guy. How did he get my number? It is unlisted so the dealer must have given out my number. No, I didn't call back, I was afraid he was sitting somewhere with clutch to the floor #5.

If I want a fast sportscar, 2 seater, used, "affordable," are there any alternatives?

I did this before mine ever failed

And while the Z1 kit hasn't been around terribly long, the ZSpeed heavy duty CSC has been around for years. Either one is worlds better than the OEM CSC.

Default Wish I had known

When I logged on and first mentioned this problem in May, no one mentioned this kit. I was told what I had to do to make the dealer or corporate help me. They didn't. I'll post the letter week after next. I got stampeded by well meaning friends, traded the car, wished I hadn't, and now I'm stuck with a car I don't want. I posted this so anyone else in my shoes takes the time to explore all options first. I regret every day having traded the car. Everyday. I owed $30K on a $23K car (I was still upside down in the Z). My plans are to pay as much extra on the credit union loan as possible, save and scrimp to pay this loan down, and in a year or two, try to trade it on a used Z, maybe a 2014 by then. There is nothing wrong with the Challenger. It is loaded to the gills with every option possible, black, red stripes, hemi, you name it. But it is not me. I like small, fast, manual transmission cars that have only two seats. I kick myself every day. Stupid.

get out of the car, find a brick, put it on the gas, put the car in drive and move out of the way. beat it with a hammer to make sure it's 100% totaled. buy a Z. problem solved

No, he's in the alternate reality where that sh!t is, unbelievably, still cool. I gave it up ten years ago. Course, I went mainstream so I could actually earn a living with writing while I did what I loved. One thing for sure, l33T never gets bitten with unallowable words.

Man 4 csc replacements? You must have been swimming in repair bills. Why didn't you replace the csc with aftermarket?

I read the whole thread about buying a 370z from back in the day. I wondered if you got one. It sucks that you had so many CSC failures and dumped the car. Can't blame you for that.

Thanks. what really sucks is, I've had a sportscar of some sort since 1979. The Challenger is a great car but way big, no road feel, and not for me. I already had muscle cars. I listened to too many people who never owned a Z and don't share the same emotional connection I have with machines. I plan on buying another one after I pay this car down. I worry that the csc problem was never addressed.

And you would be right to worry. Aftermarket is your only real solution. Z1 or ZSpeed or SpecialtyZ.

... or 7AT
