After buying a 370z..

Im curious.. to all of you who own the 370z what would you say should be the first things to do aftermarket to the car. I know every car has there "must be dones" and id like to know what they are for this one

jaytirbhaw 03-04-2015 01:40 PM

I have my first real mod waiting to be installed once the weather clears up. Cat-back exhaust really makes these cars sound like they should from the factory.

It all depends on what you want out of the car though. A lot of people throw on an oil cooler so they can track the car for extended periods of time. Do you plan on doing any auto-x or HPDE events? Your needs might be different if you do.

Forget those things and take a out a very large loan for some forced induction, exhaust, new tires, new clutch, new body kit, new rims, new paint job (my personal favorite Lotus Chrome Orange), new seats, NOS decals only for intimidation purposes, sticker of calvin from calvin and hobbes peeing on a poor VTECH Honda, and last but not least a lemony scented tree thingy hanging from your rear view mirror screaming to the world, yes! I smoke weed in my car!

Seriously though who cares man do what you want to do. Looks or performance? Then go from there.

No autox maybe a drag day one time out of the year and other than that she'll be a weekend warrior lol

Neil912 03-04-2015 02:20 PM

I personally think the 370z looks sexy as is and I wouldn't go for any body upgrades. Depending on your budget and I think a majority of people would get a new exhaust, Stillen Gen3 CAI, maybe some new headers, and definitely a re-tune. That gives a decent upgrade that is not very expensive that you will notice.

You would probably be fine without an aftermarket oil cooler in that case. I went with a Catback as my first mod so I'd suggest the same for you.

*Edit* For another SRT-4 owner if your avatar is correct. I traded in my 04 for my Z.

1. CSC
2. exhaust/intake

So true.^^

Ive got a 14, the oil cooler is useless. Even when ambient temps here in FL were in the 70s my oil would still creep to around 210F. when driving in some traffic.

Haha yes, when i made this account i had an srt4 and now i have an s2000 and currently looking for a 370..

The srt4 is one of the reasons i made this thread because anyone who owned one will tell you motor mounts, short throw shifter are some of the first must do's on that car lol

There are a lot of posts on this and all the answers are the same, intake exhaust etc...

Don't forget simple stuff:

Window Tints
Good quality License Plate Frame that has "Z" at the bottom
Metal Tire valve stem covers
Radar detector
Clear bra?? maybe?

1adam12 03-04-2015 07:35 PM

Z Speed Aluminum Undershroud, makes oil changes easy.

Magic Bus 03-04-2015 08:34 PM

Add one more vote for exhaust!

DirtyDan 03-04-2015 08:43 PM

Add subwoofer and aftermarket stereo and crank it up!!!

1LIFE 03-04-2015 08:43 PM

Lurk the private classified section on here and start scooping up like new breather mods and suspension parts for like half price. ;)

Looking back, I should have paid off the Z first than start modding.
But where is the fun in that right?

Its your car, your $$$!

When the Z35 is out - no one cares anymore.

Sway bars are a great first mod! Super easy to install and you feel the difference right away.

Oil cooler is also important if you ever do extended spirited driving or get stuck in traffic a lot. If you get an oil cooler, you most likely are into actual performance mods. Pair this up with better brake fluid too for even more street cred :tiphat:

Intake/exhaust as others have said if you need more power and sound. But kenchan is right. The best bang for your buck will be the washer mod, although you will lose the street cred you gained with the oil cooler and brake fluid :rofl2:

CSC is a big issue! Listen to LAVA. Or, if you don't want to spend all the money on a CSC rebuild, you can band aid it a bit with better clutch fluid, RJM clutch assembly and a Z1 SS clutch line.

evil370z 03-04-2015 10:39 PM

got my motor dyne exhaust with 5 inch blue tips + stillen g3 cold air intakes installed yesterday. stock cats, amazing loud crisp aggressive tone, no drone. after 3k, omg, it screams so loud, deep growl, sooo nice, i love it.

JC-Nismo 03-04-2015 10:56 PM

Suspension and Wheels should always be first.

FLUJOKE 03-05-2015 01:55 AM

Clearbra first then intake and exhaust and tune then add oil cooler, sways, pulleys, springs, leds, Gtr button, mehhhhh list goes on and on

IMHO stickers.

+5 hp stickers. they are proven. mine adds +5hp for $5. considering it was maybe 10 or so whp for $400 for the intakes.... bloody waste to do anything but slam stickers.

HEK 03-05-2015 08:37 AM

So on another note I hear that the cat back makes the car sound the way it should have from the factory..uhmm I think any louder would distort the sound from the Bose system and the drone at highway speeds would eventually get old...my 2 cents

proper set ups from quality makers and a good tech to install would not have the drone issue... from my understanding atleast

Nismo358 03-05-2015 11:29 AM

I personally bought my car and right away invested in suspension because I couldn't stand the wheel gap. Invested in quality spacers. Recently picked up an ARK exhaust and ART pipes. Next would be a tune. But like everyone has said, it's a matter of preference and what you want to do with the car and what you care for the most.

FairladyZ10PG 03-05-2015 11:30 AM

I have berk hfc paired with M7 exhaust and have no drone when cruising at highway speeds
