that's the argument I never really understand. the automatic in the Z is a lot of fun and the GT-R with a DCT is a dream.

think about it for a second. a MT is a pain in the ass for everyday driving.

the part where driving gets fun is pedal to the floor, on a track, on the dragon or twisties, etc....

balls out the AT is just as fun if not more than a MT. yes the MT diehards will argue the MT you have more control and feel blah blah blah.

it's all the same......just minus a pedal. either model you're control shifts, RPMs, which gear you want going in and out of corners. yes the AT you cant jump 4th to 2nd or 5th to 3rd or whatever needs to be done. but it's still fun and useful.

now no more MT v AT talk. I like this thread too much lol

You know, if the new Z has an AT that shifts a little faster ... And frankly, I like the idea of not having to move my hand from the wheel to the shifter every few seconds. At speed it is good to have your hands on the wheel. Used to be you could get shift kits to boost performance of auto transmissions. What's up with that?

I was on the fence when I got my Z. I decided the Syncro revmatch was sufficient automation for me. But, I was almost there.

well to be fair older AT's were not as efficient and control was not the same. heck even in the 07 IS250/350 AT's the paddle control was sloppy. compared to 15' IS's which has so much better control.

i said this before but i can see in the next 5-10 years auto's being the norm and manuals will not exist in production anymore with how technology is coming along. power loss will be insignificant, shifts ARE faster (in newer auto's / entry level luxury lines), heck it's arguable it's safer as you're focusing on driving as opposed to shifting.

that being said i'm still glad i get to learn the MT skill.

yea I agree there have been some just god awful paddle shifted ATs in the past 5 years or so. most fall short but that makes me happy that the Z's is so good. test drove both the MT and AT when I was buying. tested 3 MTs and after my first AT test I was sold. Nissan got it right.

lets ho the next Z they hit another home run with the AT.

but I also agree with learning how to drive a stick is a good skill to have. the joke anymore is a stick is the worlds best anti-theft device lol

as for lube......blood is natures lube

Oh man...good question. Probably 2. But it REALLY had to be 400 fewer pounds WITHOUT gas.

I say option 1 based on the engine itself. if we get a boosted V6 from factory it opens up more possibilities for power where slight tweaks or a tune can make the factor of not shedding weight irrelevant.

look at the tenability of a GT-R or BMW 335. couple breathers and a tune and you're gaining 100WHP most cases.

the problem with boost and the current Z is that we're boosting a factory N/A motor. usually never ends well. but a boosted factory motor would be nice to play with and help us in the long run.

if Nissan builds a block as solid as the GT-R's for the Z it'll have great potential.
