Yea, I would not call it unsafe from personal experience. I will include the 350 too. Had a friend roll his several times and he had to crawl out of it. All he had was a small scratch on his hand. In my last 370, i had someone pull out in front of me at speed, crushed the front but the cabin was 100% intact and I was perfectly fine.

The reports saying the 350Z are the most unsafe car are very biased/written shitty. Based on the crashes I have seen on this site like mdxj said, the 370Z is an exceptionally safe car

I will say its also a matter of luck. You can hit steering wheel and get internal bleeding and die.
I for instance had multiple motorcycle accidents, 1 was at 85 mph and another was 75mph when I flew into the back of a car. Both accidents I got up and walked away from. A little scuff and body very sore from impact but very lucky in both situations esp to be alive. I am new to this car so my opinion is very uneducated so I don't know anything about safety. I would love to see some of those numbers but honestly it wouldn't really matter to me. Obviously if its for sale it must have passed some safety regulations, and I still enjoy the car so its whatever. It sucks you aren't s fond of your purchase, hopefully you can find a person to buy it soon, sucks playing the waiting game |

2. Safety is a matter of perspective. I drove an '04 Wrangler followed by a '95 Cherokee for a few years before my Z. My 370Z is light years ahead of either of these cars. A wreck can kill no matter what you drive. Not many cars on the street can avoid a wreck as well as a Z (or any competent sports car with powerful brakes/sticky tires and an attentive driver behind the wheel). Sure, of you run a Z nose first into a semi going 90mph, you won't be walking away in 1 piece. But even the safest car is going to have situations that physics can't ignore. On the flip side, how hard is it to roll a Z vs. a full-size pickup with an autozone block lift and mud tires? Which one will stop on a dime? Around here the lifted truck market dwarfs the sports car market by an impressive margin. So is the Z really a dangerous car to own? All I can say is I survived wrecks in plenty of other "death traps" by comparison, and my Z has yet to lose any suspension bits or random bolts while driving. |

Do you mean this...?
Top 20 Most Dangerous Vehicles - Forbes Lots of sports cars have dodgy crash test ratings. There's always Volvos... I'm not a "Forbes" kind of guy but the idea that much of the death rate is due to the typical drivers rather than the lack of safety inherent in the car's design is undoubtedly a major factor if not the sole one. If it makes you feel any better, I personally crashed a 370Z, ripped off the front axle, and banged up the rear frame -- airbags deployed, and totally without injury, other than a minor bruise from the seatbelt.

As a rule-of-thumb, the larger the car, the safer you are in a wreck. So, yeah, a 370Z is probably not as safe as a Lincoln Town Car in a wreck. But with the Z - a smaller, nimbler vehicle - you are more able to avoid the wreck in the first place.
I hit a tree hard enough to knock the right front tire/brake/suspension off my '09 Z and my only injury was a small burn to my hand from the air bag. The car did more damage to me than the tree did.

My thoughts would be it's RWD, with some power. Add rain or snow and a new driver whose not cautious. It's a rolling death trap. I don't think the car is unsafe in the hands of anyone who respects both the car and the road.

From the Forbes web-site ..........
But it’s not for the reasons you might think. In this case, says Russ Rader, communications director for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an organization that represents the interests of the insurance industry, the 350Z is part of a group of vehicles that tends to be driven by younger, less experienced or riskier drivers, and stands out for having high death rates, through no particular fault of the car. and also “When they are in crashes,” he adds, “they’re particularly serious ones.” This illustrates a key point: Simply looking at the historical death rates for one particular model might not give much insight into the relative danger, or safety, of driving that vehicle. Furthermore, the most recent available federal data, interpreted by make and model by the IIHS, covers 2001 to 2004 model years in calendar years 2002 to 2005. Many models have had significant changes in safety equipment or complete redesigns since then. This thread is absolutely why I treat road safety analysis as "lies, damn lies and then there is statistics" and that is exactly hat Forbes is saying - the result is a by product of the vehicle being used by d1ck-heads who are voting with their behavior to exit the gene pool - Darwinism at its best. One of my motorsport buddies is a retired Deputy District Inspector with VICPOL (Victoria Police Service) and he says you cannot legislate for d1ck-heads but the OP seems to think that Nissan is able to do exactly that - create a vehicle in which even the most idiotic d1ck-head can be saved from himself. Well at the age of 63 I am moved to say that there comes a time in life when you need to stand up and be accountable. I'm an admirer of those in our armed forces who do that day-in and day-out under the most unimaginable stress, and I for one think it is about time that our legislators stop trying to protect d1ck-heads from themselves and start enforcing the need for personal accountability in daily life. Rant-mode now off ..... Anyone who wants the proper definition of d1ck-head is welcome to PM me .... RB |
