Considering saying goodbye to the Nismo

I love my car and have since before I got it, but with kids a possibility around the corner I've been considering a four seater. I test drove a 2013 5.0 earlier today and I actually enjoyed it, so I may be looking into something like that or even the new 2015 mustang. Please, please, PLEASE talk some sense into me ladies and gents!

Nargrakhan 09-10-2014 06:04 AM

Traitor. There's a special place in Hell for you. I believe Dante listed it as the 9th Circle.

Open your door slowly at night... the Nissan Black Ops Team might show up in their stealth GT-R's to make an example of you...

Datsun240Z71 09-10-2014 06:15 AM

Do what I did. Keep the Z (I have two... a 370Z and 240Z) and buy yourself a Hyundai Elantra 4 door. Great cars... my wife has one too!

370z_Roadster 09-10-2014 06:55 AM

:icon18:What he said! I would consider keeping the Z and having a second car(4 door) for the family if you can afford it. One car cannot do everything well.

big daddy 09-10-2014 08:40 AM

:iagree::iagree::iagree::iagree:

I have 2 cars, one the family and my Nismo for me :icon18:

janglez 09-10-2014 08:58 AM

ditto on the 2nd car... the hyundai elantra is nicely equipped for the money and nice looking imo... my fiancé has one and she loves it

A Mustang? Really?

I get the family thing. It is why it took me ten years to get a Z. But a Mustang? Really? (You really can't say that enough in cases like this.)

You need to look at the G37 or Q50. Get a two door...but a rear seat!

jcasti07 09-10-2014 10:45 AM

Haha thanks for that Nargrakhan. You guys' input is greatly appreciated. I'm in no hurry to make a decision, but this definitely gives me the perspective I needed.

cigarclifford 09-10-2014 11:08 AM

My 2010 Nismo is at 68,000 miles and is daily driven.....It's the only way
to travel..............GL

:hello:

MJB 09-10-2014 11:36 AM

Why give the OP crap if he wants to get rid of the Z? Maybe he isn't a Nissan fan boy like some of you guys. OP, those 5.0 Mustangs have a ton of performance. A bolt on and tuned Z would still get beat by a stock 5.0. Go for it, why not? I loved my Z as well, but I like to explore other options, not just stick to a Nissan.

Pie 09-10-2014 11:38 AM

Good luck with whatever you choose.

LOL, I agree, but I think the OP was looking for persuasion to stay here and with the 370Z

Oh, gotcha.... well in that case.... ummm, the Nismo looks cool  Lol. If you say you have a baby on the way, not sure what more to say. If you like the Nismo keep it, if you want back seats then explore other options.

kenchan 09-10-2014 12:54 PM

Get a Honda fit as dd? :ugh:

That's a really good idea for OP. Gas savings, 4 doors, reliable

kenchan 09-10-2014 01:07 PM

Yah, and carry things..

jcasti07 09-10-2014 02:10 PM

DE, you hit the head on the nail. I think a lot of this is my inability to remain static. I always have to be doing something new, or changing things up in my life, but I really don't want the Z to be one of them. I'm sure some might be able to relate.

Switching to a 5.0 is extremely common on this forum, many people have gone over to Mustang. Hardly anything new. However i think its strange you want something more practical so you switch to a torquey RWD car? A V8 Mustang isn't exactly a family car. (Or is it?). If i was in your situation i would get a second car, i personally bought a 2002 WRX for the extreme winters we have been having lately for $5,000, runs like a champ.

Rusty 09-10-2014 08:01 PM

OP. Get yourself a second car. If you get rid of the Nismo. You will only kick yourself in the a$$ later for getting rid of it. Do like I did. I now have my own fleet of vehicles. The Nismo, Jeep GC TrailHawk, Ram PowerWagon, 41ft diesel motorhome, and 3 motorcycles. Of course, all of this was bought over a period of time.

jcasti07 09-10-2014 08:21 PM

To answer y'all's question of why considering a mustang as a family car... I do still want a sports car, but one that my kids or a group of friends can enjoy with me as opposed to only one passenger. An sti was my first thought, so I test drove one and absolutely hated it, call me crazy, but yea.

My thoughts exactly. A boosted AWD car like an EVO or WRX are the only affordable cars I would consider instead of the Z. Plus, four doors and a trunk. Perfect family car.

No hate for the Mustang though, the Coyote engines are awesome!

Spooler 09-10-2014 09:41 PM

Keep it. I regret selling my 1990 300zxtt. Wanted that car forever and then sold it when I got married. I kick myself all the time.

Gadgetech 09-10-2014 09:41 PM

I have yet to see a new Mustang but those aren't bad looking in pictures. Have you considered maybe a used 335i 4 door? Plenty of fun to be had although not as fast.

Get a low mileage 996 Turbo. Allows your 5 year old to ride comfortably in the back while you blow everything away. Will still be relevant for several years too. You'll find some 02's, 03's under $45k. Rich dudes barely drive them, over maintain them, and keep them near mint (at least in SoCal). Top that with super car owner bragging rights. Its always about who gets to the next red light first!!

Mbreese 09-12-2014 05:51 AM

Get u a leaf ! DO NOT SALE YOUR Z !!! I once made the same mistake thought I needed a four door ! I was wrong all the way around so at the end of the day I'm back home now with my Z and life is back in balance ! you will regret this move at the end of every day !!!!!
Plus I'm pretty sure u will end up being on the Nissan Black Ops Hit Team as u was warned earlier from Nargrakhan !!! Lmao !!!

Tadpole 09-12-2014 06:03 AM

Also consider the nissan sentra. My wife has the 13 SL model and it's a very nice car. I'm still trying to get use to the cvt transmission tho. It's loaded with leather, nav, bose, moonroof, backup camera, and cost about 23k out the door. At least stay with nissan if you sell your nismo

Only if you can afford a Porsche mechanic or do your own work, a 996 Turbo is nice....but if one thing goes wrong..be it a turbo, intercooler, or some other things....its major cash to get fixed. Porsches are not cheap to keep running, if you go that route get a 996 911S...plenty of fun as well.

Push370zzz 09-12-2014 09:24 AM

If you really want a cheap option, lease an Elantra for $150-180/month. You should be able to get one with nothing down. Or hell, I've seen Versa sedans advertised for $10-12k new.

...and a 5.0 with Boss 302 upper intake manifold and a tune gets you absolutely stupid amounts of power super cheap without going FI.

Want even more? Add forced induction to that 5.0 and flip GTR owners the bird as your car eats theirs for lunch for less than half the cost.:p

Said goodbye to my boosted Z at the being of August, dumbest thing I have done thus far in my life...however if I save my dough for another 6 to 8 months I can put hefty down payment on c7...the Z is still one of the most well rounded modern sports cars IMO, my car always turned heads.

Maybe in 6-8 months the halt on sales of C7s will be lifted.

Joepro 09-12-2014 11:49 PM

The Z has its fair share of issues just like any other car. :)

sunkist350z 09-13-2014 03:26 AM

the c7 is a great car but I would wait till 2016 model to get out the kinks..car & driver did a long term test and blew the engine at only 6,000 miles and the are blaming the oil filter lol

Mbreese 09-13-2014 05:22 AM

Not to mention they are gonna make the next corvette mid-engine which will knock the price of the c7 down considerably !

You are correct but GM is up to 67 recalls this year. I like the new Corvette, I like the old Corvettes but you gotta wonder how much GM can really put up with before there's another gov't bail out. Of course several manufacturers are dealing with the same air bag issue the GM had to deal with. GM is also trying to shift it's image as one of an industry leader which is commendable.

nomodsjk 09-13-2014 09:30 AM

Get a used wrx sti. And please keep the nismo. There is a guy on this forum selling a really nice Subaru legacy for a good price and the thing is really clean. Maybe cooltoy will read this and post the link for you. He's the matchmaker on this forum! And he's damn good at it.

And the next z will be in line 6 turbo...I'll beleive it when I see it! To the op, in hind sight I would keep it, the new ford fusion coupe looks like trash IMO.

Still a long shot though ! Lol

Joepro 09-13-2014 09:52 AM

I work for an auto manufacturer(not chevy or nissan) and they did not just spend all the R&D money to make the C7 for 3 or 4 years and R&D another new sports car...wont hapeen anytime soon anyway ;) Cant bash GM when Nissan had how many oil burners in 09-10? THeir failure rate it still lower at this point(from what I can see on their forums, they have had 3 forums members plus the 3 CD cars, but I trust mags as fr as I can throw, there are also many high HP c7s running around, my guess is they were not broke in properly)

I want another sports car, and have been shopping the 50-60k range, I hate german cars, I cant stand mustangs, No 4 doors, the list got real short without not getting something new...only hesitation on the Z is what Nissan come out with next, but at this point I will speculate it will be a 2017 model...I cant wait that long..
