I would wait and see about the 2015 mustang. Interior is worlds better than the outgoing model and you would assume it to have significantly improved handling. I test drove a 13' mustang and the steering felt so loose compared to the Z, though I found its acceleration to be more immediate than the Z's where the Z seems delayed and kind of laggy.
Given the choice between Z and pre 15' I would still pick the Z. Between a 15' and Z though? If they improve steering feel and handling just a little, I will place my order. Even though a first year model ford scares me a little... |

I can't wait to see a 2015 in person. I have an 01 convertible that allows me to keep the Z in the garage when it's anything but sunny out so I'm partial to them.

Not everyone can afford to have 2 cars. Im an engineer, single income living in Wash DC and i can barely afford my z when rent, utilities, food and any form of sanity are included into the mix so keep that in mind before making blind comments that seem simple for some and impossible for others.
I too have a little one coming within the next 5 months, and ive been scrambling desperately to find a way to dump this lead life anchor of a car for something actually useful. Cant straight up sell it because i owe more than its worth, cant trade it in for something cheap as **** because the negative equity makes the new car too much for a bank to touch, and cant get a loan for the remaining payoff amount due too poor credit thanks to putting effort into life and going to college. Luckily of all the stealerships I went too begging on my knees to let me even LOOK at the cheapest cars they make...... nissan stepped up to the plate. I went to sheehy in manassas park and they lined up a 2014 maxima with leather for 22 grand, it blew my mind. With negative equity it would make it just under the listed MSRP. Would have did it right on the spot but they said I needed a minimum credit score, so I hired a company to dispute my credit until dec and hope its high enough. The other options to hope I get into a legitimate accident with it that and total it that wasnt intentional, aka fraud. I would say "2013 mag red nismo for sale 12k miles" but everyone expects to pick them up for $15, while the dealerships sell these used for 32-35 grand depending on condition. So i feel your pain man, dont let people talk you into making the wrong choice by ******* pear pressure. Family should always come first, not some useless *** sports car. You can always buy another one someday. Dont feel like your making a sacrifice. Its your car, or your kid. Common sense. |

life is about choices, dealing with those choices, and sacrifice/compromise... not making excuses for where you are... sometimes it's not about what you want but what you need... i'm 45 and have wanted a z car for as long as i can remember... just purchased mine a year ago... i waited until my son turned 18 and graduated from high school... for many reasons but mainly the financial one the op asked for opinions/options and that's what people gave him... for me, and i know that not everyone can afford to do this, i waited until i could afford a nice dd and the z... mainly due to ohio winters but also because i wanted my z to be mainly a toy that i enjoy on nice days my best to you and the op... good luck with your decisions... but please keep in mind that your decisions don't only affect you now ok... i'll get off my soapbox now... thanks for reading

Im almost 30, im stating this through experience as you say many young "kids" have more "kids" before they are ready. Well i have an adult job most wish they had, making a good bit but live in an area that REQUIRES dual income/zero debt/150k a year/being illegal without taxes or have a second hobby that makes money. I was simply saying to make the responsible decision and ditch the useless piece of **** sports car and get what u need for the family. I have been in a 370 since they launched in 09, before i even had a significant other or even considered a baby. I agree with you for the most part but please dont put me in the irresponsible class lol, im the one actually being the voice of reason here. I made preparations to bail on thos stupid *** car the nanosecond i found out my wife wad pregnant.

as you stated... with kids comes sacrifices and responsibility... but they're worth it

Maybe consider not focusing on getting into something else thats fast. Are you really concerned that your car makes 420 hp with a newborn baby in the back? If yes u should reevaluate if u have what it takes to be a dad and get the priorities straight. I know it sucks giving up your nismo for a socker mom car..... but again lifes not just about what YOU want anymore. Hell im in a position i would be praising every god in history just to be able to get rid of mine. Even if that means humbling the **** up and getting into a damn versa note, being selfish and picky is a pipedream luxury when dad mode activates.
Just buy an old 1970s 240 and dump an LS motor into it, coilover monos, and big disk breaks/new power stearing and u have a MONSTER for a 10th of the price run rings around that nismo. Theres plenty of ways to have ur speed fix on the cheap and plenty of time to wait for the chance when its not a decision between car parts or new clothes for jr. Why anyone would get another sports car with a young one on the way is a mystery to me. A ford too.. Get something that can fit the family comfortably! stop trying to still get a little tiny sports car like the Mustang that barley has any back seats!
I know you love sports cars as I do, but family comes first! You will have time when the little one grows up and the sports cars will be much better then. |

OP,
There has to be a fun driving sedan or SUV out there you like. Something you can enjoy with the family and even more when you're by yourself. I feel you chii370. I used to live in the DMV until 2010. I had a decent job also, but the cost of living was eating me up. Too many friends and coworkers buying smedium houses for crazy money with little money left over to even furnish them. It was pissing me off and I wasn't about that life. I moved down south and my pocketbook immediately thanked me. You're an engineer so your career income ceiling is a lot higher than mine. You'd be sitting pretty in a place with a lower cost of living. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk |

Move to Texas. Everyone else is. Also, don't blame the car you buy. All vehicles depreciate in value.

Chii370 and janglez, thank you both for your honest opinions. Being 24 years old, I appreciate the hindsight from those who have experience. I should add a bit of my personal background as you all so kindly have. I'm a city firefighter/ paramedic and my wife is a teacher. We've been married for a year in October but together for nearly nine. We do well enough financially and God willing we will start our family soon, but she isn't pregnant yet. She drives a nice honda civic which covers the family wagon for those of you insisting on a side car, and I have the Nismo. My dd which I take to work and leave outside for our 24hr shifts is a 2001 camaro that isn't in great shape, but it gets me to work. This in not a vehicle I would trust driving my kids in if my wife needed her civic. At this point, my consideration is , and I fully understand, is a selfish one. I do want to have the sports car with the added luxury of being able to hold more passengers IF THE NEED BE. Steelertown shares some of my perspective as far as the 5.0 is concerned. The 2015 model seems to be offering so much more than previous gen mustangs ever have. If y'all haven't seen it by now I'm a bit indecisive, haha! But who knows, maybe on the coming years Nissan will go through with that inline six turbo! In the meantime I am continuing to shower my Z with love and care as I always have.
