Nismo Parts -Worth Replacing?
So I am sorry if this has been discussed and I couldn't find it.
I was talking with my brother in law and he mentioned that if I do get a Nismo it wont be necessary to upgrade exhaust or anything. My question is to the Nismo guys. Is this true? I want Nismo mainly for the bodykit. Reason I say this is I did the math and if I get the stock and setup an amuse kit it will run me the same or more to do that. So I am better off just getting the Nismo. So with that said. I would still like the idea of upgrading exhaust and such. However I need to know. Is it worth the cash or is the Nismo setup actually pretty damn good? |
Only reason to buy a Nismo instead of a base + sport is the following:
The Nismo body kit, The Nismo interior, The little exclusive ## of ## plate behind the seats. There are better exhausts and suspensions out there. |

I like that little exclusive club of the number haha, just a little bonus and for me the little bells and whistles are great! |

To be honest, I wish I bought a touring model for leather seats, nav, and suede door inserts. |
So next question.
I was reading up and learned that the bose system is not amazing if you really love audio. Next, the whole car is wired into the Navigation unit so I cannot upgrade that. Anybody get the Navi addon without bose audio and add a sub and such? Or would that be difficult? Or would I need to get Bose with Navi and then upgrade that along with changing out the wires due to the ohms or whatever issue? |
Y8ou're right about the sound system...Its not that great....I personally expected more since its a Bose system...Your better off going aftermarket in this category. ..If u ha e the Navi system its difficult to go after market as u mentioned with the complications regarding the wiring..

I love the Nismo for the body kit and interior. I love they way they look and how everone always steers and takes pictures of it :pics:
You don't really have to upgrade anything! When I bought mine I was going to keep it stock:bowrofl: I've only upgraded the exhaust, air intake, test pipes, CS gound kit..... The truth is I love the Nismo and truly believe ever Z driver wishes they had one :nutswinger: |
I'm loving my NISMO! I definitely plan on upgrading my exhaust, though. The NISMO exhaust is kinda quiet.

If you're getting a Nismo, keep everything but the exhaust. Also consider what you intend to do with her. Most don't or just occasionally track it, if that's the case save your money. Spend on a few Nismo details, like a shift knob, If your into transforming your car, get the sport.

Axmea so here are my plans.
Full Exhuast Swap Cold Air Intake MOTORDYNE M370 Intake Manifold Pully Upgrade Coilovers Wheels Complete Audio Upgrade And then a few cosmetic things on the exterior and maybe some interior. As far as track goes I wouldn't mind trying it. But I will more than likely just drive it to work every now and then and take it out into the mountains and such. |
I suggest a tune after all your engine mods are done.
|
The Nismo H-pipe exhaust is actually pretty well designed -- I'd swap out the OEM cats for either HFC's, TP's, or headers, but the cat back is a good design and sounds pretty nice too.
The springs and shocks are better than the standard Z, but not great. I don't think swapping out the sways is worth the trouble unless you will track the car, but you could add additional bracing as desired. Tune and higher flowing filters or intake is worthwhile. Keep the wheels and add some spacers. |
Nismo version have a lot more than just interior and body kit
brakes, suspension, chassis braces, dampers.. so on.. I think it worth going for Nismo. |
I got a great deal on my NISMO and I changed quite a bit. But those are things that I would have changed if I had a Base/Sport or Touring/Sport as well. The only area I do not like the NISMO suspension is on not-so-nice roads. Mod are in my sig!
|
Yeah, the NISMO is fairly harsh on bad roads. On my test drive, I was actually (pleasantly) surprised that the car felt quite a bit stiffer than my old Z.
|
I agree with Jordo on the Nismo wheels.
|
Easier to add touring bits to the Nismo than the other way around. I was about to spring for the touring/sport fully decked out with navigation etc.., but went with the Nismo. Wanted the goodies, so I put them in myself. Can't beat the rear end look.

mfeinst, is your sig up to date? Your car looks lower than usual on swifts
|
I think you should do whatever rocks your boat. I have modded mine and still going. My car handles nothing like stock with all the suspension upgrades. Every time I drive it, it makes me giggle like a kid!!! You get to create your own driving experience and it's okay to change your mine along the way...I did!
I will say that if I was looking at purchasing a 15 that I would do a sport touring and change the body kit. The 15 Nismo just does not do it for me...I like the 09 thru 14s body kit way mo better!!! |

Sick, do it!
|
I'd say do it if you like the nismo look. The nismo exhaust is not bad, but there are better exhaust system out there for the sound and look like Fast Intentions, HKS, Motordyne e370. I love the nismo suspensions tho. Feels like my HKS Hypermax III coilovers on my old g35c. You don't have to change the suspensions unless you want to lower your car.
|
I love my Nismo but I got a good deal on an 11 with 20k miles and extended warranty
It already had mods done. Only thing I need now is an oil cooler. If you love it get it |

btw the guys with 2010 nismos. How are they? I know first versions of cars are usually full of bugs, so I wonder how 2010 is since 2009 was first year?
I see some amazing deals for 2010s out there. I am aiming at a 15 but always like to have a backup plan and see some amazing prices on 10s. |
I bought my 10 two years ago with 11k miles and have had know issues to speak with of...I'm 34k now with the last 10k being FI and running strong!
|
Hotrods I didn't really understand the first part, I assume you mean no known issues?
And that is great news! All I know is whichever one I get, first two mods I will be doing is FI and Exhaust. Then I will worry about the rest haha. |
Yup, sorry about the gibberish. Got distracted by the wife lol, but your interpretation is correct. Going a FI exhaust is an excellent start!

For me, the decision between a sweet deal on a 09-14 Nismo and the 15 would be a no-brainer. The 15 is pretty hideous, but then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder. |
Had a 2010 nismo prior to this one no issues for the 3 years I owned it.
Mods to do IMO: Oil cooler Fuel starve fix (esp if you track it) Brake fluid lines and pads if tracking Clutch line and fluid if tracking Everything else is up to you preference wise but not required. |
